There is no sex scenes in this book just a little floundering. Because of this a true story was able to develop. The characters a funny, warm exciting and easy to fall in love with. The book runs smoothly and is not predictable. Victoria shows not just beautiful women fall in love with a handsome warrior you can be a woman like Rosielia .. tall chubby cut hair and bruises. I'm definitely reading the next two books in the trilogy

Format:Mass Market Paperback
TEMPTATION IN A KILT is the first storyline in Victoria Roberts' Bad Boys of the Highlands romance series. During the reign of King James the MacGregor's and the Campbell's are at war with one another but life continues for the Scottish laird Ciaran MacGregor. But when he and his men stumble upon a badly beaten and injured young woman, all good sense is thrown out the proverbial window. Presuming she is either on the run from her husband or family, Ciaran vows not to get involved. But the sorrow and determination that radiates from Rosalia Anderson tugs at his heart. Knowing he will probably regret his decision, Ciaran vows to see her back to health and on her way to her grandmother's home in the North country.

Rosalia Anderson is a determined young woman of the ripe old age of one and twenty. Her family arranged a marriage of convenience for Rosalia in order to stabilize their financial status. But as arranged marriages go, Rosalia was determined never to find herself in a loveless marriage let alone with a vile and truly evil man. Escape was her only option following a horrific beating at the hands of her father. But it will be her father that pays the ultimate price for his daughter's flight for freedom.

Ciaran MacGregor is the laird and one of 3 brothers in the MacGragor clan. Following the death of their father, Ciaran vowed to set his youngest brother Declan on a path to steer him from his womanizing and drinking. But his brother Aiden insists that the vow does not mean that Ciaran must sacrifice his own happiness at the expense of some misplaced honor in the memory of their late father. And now that Rosalie was an ever-present temptation in the MacGregor castle, Cairan is not so sure that Aiden is not correct in his observations.

5.0 out of 5 stars Strong Start for New Highlander Tale 6 Sep 2012
By Renee - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Temptation In A Kilt is the first in Victoria Roberts new 'Bad Boys of the Highlands' series and what a great start it is!

From the moment I met Laird Ciaran MacGregor on page 1, I was hooked, and evidently so was Rosalia Armstrong. Their brief eye contact at English Court haunts them both. Rosalia is the only child of Caroline and Ronald Armstrong. They have foolishly frittered away their wealth and are now offering their daughters hand in marriage to an elderly and unsavory Lord Dunnehl in exchange for money to replenish their coffers. Rosalia, of course, objects. In her heart of hearts she hopes to, one day, wed for love. Caroline Armstrong puts Cinderella's evil step-mother to shame and orders Rosalia to not only prepare their home for the arrival of Lord Dunnehl but then to also 'entertain' him with no denial of any request. Lord Dunnehl's visit does not turn out well and Rosalia decides to flee her home and make a better life for herself in Glengarry with her Grandmother. Borrowing clothing from her best friend since childhood, James, Rosalia manages to disguise herself and escape a dismal future with Lord Dunnehl.

Returning to his home at Glenorchy, Ciaran, his brother Aiden and their men come across Rosalia who has fallen from her horse in exhaustion and hit her head hard enough on the ground to knock herself out. Disguised as a lad the men try to determine her injuries and help. Ciaran discovers her subterfuge and thus begins our Highland love story. Through many trials and misunderstandings, Ciaran's perceived call to duty is a constant threat to their growing feelings for each other. Ciaran portrays all of the stubborness and tenderness of every Highlander we have ever loved and Rosalia is our strong, and equally stubborn, heroine.

Through all the pitfalls and plot turns I was swept away by Ciaran and Rosalia's story and I anxiously await the next book in this series. I believe Ciaran's brother Declan will be every bit as deliciously exciting as Ciaran was.

3.0 out of 5 stars Highlanders and romance...... 18 Sep 2012

BOOK SYNOPSIS

This hot new series follows a trio of Highland lairds, who are driving King James crazy with their constant clan battles and uproarious way of life.

Laird Ciaran MacGregor discovers the beautiful, wounded Lady Rosalia Armstrong while journeying to the king's court. Already burdened with the task of maintaining the peace in his lands, Ciaran has very little patience for this headstrong woman. She's as fearsome as the men trying to kill him for his lands, and their verbal sparring leaves him burning for a more intimate relationship. And if Rosalia's not careful, she'll soon discover his prowess...on and off the battlefield.

My Thoughts

The book was slightly disappointing to me as I expected more. I did enjoy the book but for me it was more of a "formula historical romance" than truly anything original to the genre. I felt that the author had taken bits and pieces of my favorite historical romance authors works and created a story line and characters of her own out of them. Normally I would say that while that does not totally bother me I was going on my gut feeling when I read the book synopsis that the story would be more dynamic than what it turned out to be. While I admit that I truly love anything and everything written that features the Scottish Highlands, the highlanders themselves, the people and their politics just really think that it is always best when I find an author who does it without drawing upon tried and true scenarios from other books. At the same time each story is unique unto itself, Temptation In A Kilt has it's own appeal. I truly think that it's target audience will love it completely, unreservedly and look forward to the next book in the series.

It is true that there was enough action and suspense in the telling of the tale, there was enough romantic interludes and there was a believably sensual relationship between Ciaran and Rosalia but at the same time I could not help but feel like some of what happened to the characters was forced. The scenes did not flow as easily as I thought they could have and as others have said there was too much predictability in what would happen at times as well.

For me the most fun part of the book were the scenes between Ciaran, his brothers Aiden and Declan especially the ones that highlighted just how different their respective personalities and outlook on life really were.

Ciaran is the ultra responsible laird and older brother, Aiden is the married middle brother who is like a breath of fresh air when he dotes on his wife and newly born son and Declan is the bad boy youngest who is rudderless and feels misunderstood more often than not hiding his true feelings by drinking and playing the buffoon who would rather while away his time on women and wine than grow up.

All in all an enjoyable read that while for me it is not a "keeper" to read over is one that I am glad to have had the chance to see for myself what others who read it liked or disliked.

I feel that the author has a good start and if she continues in the same vein the next in the series and the one to follow should be better, at least that is my hope. I truly would love to read the next book which is Declan's story as he is such a riot, a beautiful man with such a tortured soul that he hides behind a veneer of indifference and bluster. Hopefully in X Marks the Scot Bad Boys of The Highlands-Book 2, Declan manages to totally redeem himself by getting past his own demons and grow into the man that I know he can be!

For lovers of the Highlands, the Highlanders and the fiery lasses who win their hearts this romance will be one you will enjoy as it has everything in it that makes what readers of the genre look for as long as you do not mind the fact that you will basically know what is going to transpire in the story before the scenes are acted out completely.

4.0 out of 5 stars The heroine was unique 25 Sep 2012

Temptation in a Kilt, Victoria Roberts

Laird Ciaran Macgregor of Glenorchy is on his way home from court, when he runs into a young boy who he thinks is hurt. Rosalia, a highlander with a high strung English mother remembers Laird Macgregor from her day at court. She is fleeing her arranged marriage to a man who was rumored to have murdered his wife. Her mother does not care about the man her potential fiancé is, just that he has the coins to keep her in the lifestyle she has become accustomed. Laird Macgregor offers Rosalia refuge in his home and cannot help falling in love with her although he tries to deny it. Rosalia, use to abuse at the hands of her mother thrives under her new freedom and new friends, she is in love with the Laird but has trouble believing he can love someone as big as her.

Bookswagger Danielle: Four Crowns, good read, on the way to swagger. I really enjoyed this book, it made me remember why I use to read historicals. Rosalia appealed to me on many different levels. I admired her strength in going against her parents' wishes and running away. However what I really liked about her was in spite of all the things she had gone through, she was still open and warm. I imagine I would be closed and weary of others if those things had happened to me. I liked Ciaran although at times I wanted to smack him for being so stubborn and obtuse. I wanted to yell at him bump Aiden. The author did a wonderful job of making me like him. I had to respect his fairness and his sense of right and wrong.

This book had a small element of suspense and I liked that it wasn't over done. I did notice that the author did have what I would call dead space or periods of descriptive passages. I found myself trying to get past those parts quicker to get back into the "meat" of the story. Aiden, Ciaran's brother was an interesting character and I can tell that he will have his own story and I for one will be reading it. Will you?

Bookswagger Marcia: Four Crowns, good read, on the way to swagger. Rosalia is the type of heroine I can get behind. She was down and out but made up her mind to take a chance to save herself and I enjoyed reading about it. Rosalia wanted affection, friendship and love, meeting Ciaran gave her the opportunity to gain all those things. There were a couple of slow points which is why the read did not rank a five but this is a book I enjoyed reading, I love a man in a kilt. I am looking forward to the rest of the series. The Laird a man bogged down with responsibility, a responsibility he loves and wears well. Met a refreshing woman who was enjoying her freedom after being trapped in the oppressing home of her parents. Rosalia and Ciaran were a great match. I am happy I read Temptation in a Kilt.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent read! 14 Oct 2013
By Carole "The Romance Reviews" - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
Victoria Roberts composes a solid debut novel with the release TEMPTATION IN A KILT. Strong characters and beautiful storylines establish this author as an engaging new voice.

Wanting a better life for herself, Lady Rosalia Armstrong decides to run away to the Scottish Highlands after her parents forced her engagement to a man she does not wish to marry. On her journey she meets Laird Ciaran MacGregor, a man refusing to leave the beautiful woman to her own defenses. Ciaran feels honor bound to escort this bold lass to her final destination, Glengarry, in order to keep her safe. Rosalia is grateful for the assistance, but eager to start her new life away from her abusive parents. Now the journey is proving to be a trial for both Rosalia and Ciaran because she is slowly realizing this temptation in a kilt may be too hard to resist.

There is just something about highlanders and the women who love them. Victoria Roberts encourages this phenomenon in her debut novel TEMPTATION IN A KILT. This novel takes readers on a journey of a traditional romance between two unique individuals. The development is incredibly sweet and emotionally charged to satisfy reader's craving for a worthwhile romance. You also have a little drama added in with warring clans and new enemies to captivate your interest. All the elements are typically the same as other highlander romances, but it isn't something that leads to predictability, which is what makes TEMPTATION IN A KILT an absolute enjoyable read.

I loved Rosalia's characters by the way she was so realistic and easy to relate to. She was never sure of herself, because she always felt she wasn't a great beauty. Yet it wasn't a debilitating insecurity that made you feel pity for her, rather it made you respect her because she worked so hard to overcome her issues. It was so natural to feel an alliance with her character and to understand where she was coming from. She did experience the occasional doubt of Ciaran's feelings for her but you could always end up admiring her for the strength she showed in every other aspect of the novel. In this novel, Rosalia was standing up for herself for the first time. I adored how falling in love with Ciaran didn't stop her from finding out who she was really supposed to be. Ciaran didn't help shape the new Rosalia, but just accepted her for the person she was meant to be.

Ciaran was such a charming and caring hero. He was a noble laird that took care of his people with a kind manner and extended that kindness to his family. He had a very protective nature that afforded him little time to let his guard down. You are still afforded the occasional glimpse at his softer side in his intimate moments with Rosalia and it was a refreshing change to such a serious character. Still, Ciaran was also somewhat frustrating because of the reasoning behind his various actions. He denies his feelings for Rosalia for so long because of a vow he made to his deceased father. While I'm sure it was supposed to appear as a strength to honor such a bond, I really thought it was a weakness. I was constantly hoping his love for her would overcome all, but Ciaran was pretty stubborn. And honestly, I did not feel it was a very good reason. Fortunately, it was a small flaw in an overall charming character. Ciaran was such a kind soul, and you easily realized he was the perfect match for Rosalia.

There was a lot to love about Rosalia and Ciaran's blossoming romance. Rosalia's character wasn't a stick figure, and Ciaran found that absolutely impossible to resist. It was refreshing to see a highlander appreciate a curvy lass and Ms Roberts created plenty of scenes that let Ciaran voice his appreciation. While you have Ms Roberts including a few very passionate moments, basically fanning the flames between these two characters, it is never fully explored. When it ended, I was left unsatisfied, for lack of a better word, without having their romance consummated. It quickly took this novel from a steamy romance to a sweet romance. It was all heat with no sex and I wasn't really happy about it.

Still, it's easy to overlook the small flaws and appreciate TEMPTATION IN A KILT for its success at conveying a great story. Mainly because Victoria Roberts does an excellent job of developing an emotional romance that warms your heart. You easily become involved with these characters and happily follow their journey. This is a solid start by this debut author and only hints at the promising work that is sure to follow. A very charming and touching story is what you will find with TEMPTATION IN A KILT. Mix in a little drama with a chilling villain and you have a great story about the highlanders we all know and love.

4.0 out of 5 stars Victoria Roberts writes beautifully 24 Jan 2013

Royal Court, England, 1603

Laird Ciaran MacGregor of Glenorchy spots Rosalia in the great hall as her mother is disparaging her and then pinches her before flying off across the room. Their gazes meet as she slips off to go find her father. Her father introduces her to Lord Dunnehl but she can't seem to concentrate on the conversation they are having. Her eyes keep going back to Ciaran. When she asks her father who the man is, her mother berates her telling her it doesn't matter who he is, they will be leaving for home to prepare for an important guest, the Lord Dunnehl.

Once home she is informed that she is to marry Dunnehl who is pure evil itself. This marriage will fill the family coffers again and when she refuses, she is beaten badly by her mother. She decides to run off in the middle of the night and make her way to her grandmother's home in the Highlands. She binds herself and cuts her hair to look like a boy and then gathers just enough to get her out the door and onto her beloved horse, Noonie, and although she is in intense pain from the beating she takes flight. After several hours she stops for a rest and passes out from the pain. She's found by Ciaran's men in a clearing in the woods. They take what they think is a lad back to camp and it's only when Ciaran is checking for broken bones that he finds she is a lass. He sends his brother, Aiden, on ahead and talks her into letting him take her to the closest village to see a healer. While there, she accepts the fact that she can't make it to her grandmothers this time of year. He takes her home to Glenorchy with him and promises to take her to her Grandmother in Glengarry as soon as the weather permits. In the meantime, Dunnehl arrives for his bride to find she's gone and his men take off along with one of her father's men, James who is like a brother to her, to find her. They are found on the way to Glenorchy and James and Ciaran stage it as if James was overtaken along with the others and left tied so as to throw off Rosalia's escape.

When they arrive at Glenorchy, They find that Aiden's wife, Aisling, has had her baby. Beathag, his leman, is dismissed after she shows herself in front of Rosalia and she vows vengence upon Ciaran. They are finding themselves drawn to each other but Ciaran refuses to admit the love he feels for her because of a vow he made to his father to see his brother Declan settled before he turns to his own needs. Those feelings are put to the test as Rosalia and Aisling and her son are kidnapped by the Campbells who have sworn to destroy the MacGregors. A rescue is planned and a clan fight ensues where help comes from an unexpected source. After the rescue they both find they cannot deny what is in their hearts and plan to marry.

Rosalia is a woman who has been beaten and mistreated by her mother her entire life while her father sat back and watched it happen. Trust does not come easy for her and I enjoyed watching as she grew to trust and to love. To accept herself for who she is and that what she considers her imperfections are actually what makes her beautiful. Ciaran is a man bound by duty who has it in his head that a vow he made to his father can only be accomplished one way. I loved watching him realize that life isn't always a straight path and it made me smile when he veered from that path just a little to include his own happiness. Choices are never either black or white, there are varying shades in between that make each of our journeys worthwhile. I'm anxious to read Declan's story, X Marks The Scot. I fell hard for this man. He's such a rogue and I'm totally head over heels for him! Victoria Roberts writes beautifully about the Highlands and I felt as if I were seeing it through Rosalia's eyes. It is well written and truly took me out of this world and into theirs.
