More About the Author

Andy McDermott is the bestselling author of the Nina Wilde/Eddie Chase series of adventure thrillers, which have been sold in over 30 countries and 20 languages. His debut novel, The Hunt For Atlantis, was published in the UK in 2008; on its US publication the following year it became his first of several New York Times bestsellers. He is also the author of the explosive spy thriller The Persona Protocol, and the first in a planned series of short stories about celebrity sleuth Leviticus Gold.

His eleventh novel, the Wilde/Chase adventure Kingdom Of Darkness, goes on sale in August 2014, and he is currently working on the next book in the series.

Andy's novels have received critical acclaim for their epic globetrotting scope and non-stop thrills, described as "pulse-racing adventure" (Northern Echo) with action scenes that "explode off the page" (Daily Express), while Andy himself has been called "a new master of the genre" (Le Figaro) and "a writer of rare cinematic talent" (Daily Express).

A former journalist and movie critic, Andy was the editor of respected UK magazines like DVD Review and the iconoclastic film publication Hotdog. He is now a full-time author. Born in Halifax, he now lives in Bournemouth.

Temple of the Gods is the eighth thriller in the series of adventures featuring American archaeologist Nina Wile and her ex-SAS Yorkshireman husband Eddie Chase. I read the seventh novel Empire of Gold (Nina Wilde/Eddie Chase 7) immediately before and I was glad I did. It ended very differently from the books that preceded it - it ended on a cliffhanger that only immediate immersion in Temple of the Gods could satisfy. Therefore, you really should read Empire of Gold first. In fact, I would argue that you should give yourself a holiday treat and read the lot.

You don't need me to tell you that suspension of belief is a desirable quality when reading archaeological quest thrillers. It is certainly rewarded here. And while one may have visited Atlantis so many times in thrillers that it's almost as familiar as any other historical site that actually survives on a map, there's a lot less justification for its existence here than say in The Gods of Atlantis by David Gibbins. Andy McDermott revels in it. In the first of the adventures, Nina and Eddie met during The Hunt For Atlantis (Nina Wilde/Eddie Chase 1) and in this book they return to it, having found that their adventures elsewhere on the planet have all contained further clues to explain the ancient enigma of Atlantis, the hub of civilisation. All roads have led back.

But what roads they've been.

This book ties up the over-arching story threads started in the Hunt for Atlantis, but is definitely not the strongest in the series. There has been a trend over the latter books in the series to marginalise the archaeological / exploration elements and focus more on the action set pieces, and whilst they were well written again here, this book highlights that shift in focus. McDermott is writing a new novel with new characters, and while I hope we do see more of Eddie and Nina in the future, I think it would be good for them to have a rest, as I feel that after 8 books the set up and format could be in danger of getting a bit stale. Still worth 4 stars though as Eddie remains a unique hero in this genre.

Excellent action/adventure with an emphasis on action and we're talking about big, OTT style action akin to the most OTT hollywood action film ever. Matter of fact, reading this book is a good replacement to watching an action film as this book satisfies in the same way. It's very visual, has lots of twists and turn, great humorous dialogue, and the plot, more than the other Wilde and Chase adventures, is smooth like butter, and it's well-researched. This book deserves to be a best seller. Andy makes the book exciting. I particular like the scene with the Sharkdozer underneath the waters.

This can't be the last we hear of Eddie Chase and Nina Wilde. Having found a book on holiday I became absorbed in their stories and adventures and have introduced this series of books to several friends who are also now enjoying the trials and tribulations of Eddie and Nina and their search for proving Mythology. I'm hooked and want more ... no need more. C'mon Andy McDermott, more please!!!
