These plays are fantastic - Peter Coke's voice is perfect for the suave, urbane Paul Temple. The range of the locales is exotic and the storylines bring you into a world that is both exciting and sophisticated. The episode format with musical interludes makes sure that the tension is kept high. Bravo!

Paul Temple Lives! 18 Mar 2010

I Loved Paul Temple when it was first aired and waited with baited breath for each episode. I still listen to them on Radio 4 and 7 and own quite a few of the audio books. Although by todays standards it is dated anyone who love F D will know his knack of intrigue and mystery still keep you guessing. This set holds some of the best cases. If you love this series you will not be disappointed.

This box set offers all the surviving 1950/60s Paul Temple episodes that the BBC has not managed to lose. They are a piece or radio history, and make for great listening, given that the stories are a bit samey, and therefore it is better not to listen to them consecutively, otherwise you will tend to mix up what exploded when, who fell in the water and why, and what night club the Temples are currently visiting seeking the mysteriously named villains.

Given that the productions spanned a period from 1958/68, the recordings have held up well (unlike the re-release of the only other surviving Temple story, Paul Temple Intervenes which does show its age) and there is little or no fading or background noise on playback.

As always these reflect a set of long gone values and a they are a bit before political correctness was invented, there are a few lines which would not find their way into modern day drama.

All in all these are a step back in time to the days when the family entertainment was everybody sitting round the radio, and not all stuck in front of computer screens, texting, or gazing at totally naff TV - and in my opinion, they are all the better for being in such a time warp.
