5.0 out of 5 stars Big things come in small packages! 29 April 2004
By C. A. Mcpherson - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
For having only 44 pages, this charming rose sampler template book is packed with information about traditional historical rose patterns with templates and information that enable a quilter to design in 12" or 16" blocks. There are 44 traditional designs given along with the significant names of each design. One of the best aspects of the book is that the templates are printed on one side of a piece of paper only. This enables one to effectually use a light box to trace templates, as well as to cut out without detroying templates on another side of the paper (that is if someone is brave enough to cut up their book!)
The book gives explicit directions on creating the templates and creating the paper block patterns.
The author provides information on several methods of applique, ex: Traditional basting, template applique method, spray starch applique method, freezer paper applique method, sewing machine applique method and fusible webbing applique.
This book does not cover borders, binding or basic information for completing a quilt, but I do not think it was written with the intent to provide such. It is clear that the book was meant to be an inspiration to quilters to observe and design the lovely traditional rose patterns which have been handed down to us from past generations of quilters.
My opinion is that this little book is reasonably priced for the large amount of information and templates provided. Thank you!
