Product Description

Product Description

Sir Baldwin Furnshill and Bailiff Simon Puttock have been granted leave to go on pilgrimage, both seeking solace after the recent, traumatic events in Gidleigh. Together they travel across Europe to Santiago de Compostela but, as usual, danger is never far away. A beautiful young girl is found raped and murdered on a hillside. Baldwin and Simon lend their investigative skills to the local enquiry, but the unexpected appearance of a face from Baldwin's past threatens both the investigation and Baldwin's very future.

About the Author

Michael Jecks gave up a career in the computer industry to concentrate on writing and the study of medieval history, especially that of Devon and Cornwall. He lives with his family in northern Dartmoor.

5.0 out of 5 stars No Penance in Reading This One, 15 Nov 2004

This review is from: The Templar's Penance (Medieval West Country Mystery) (Mass Market Paperback)
It is summer 1323, Sir Baldwin and Simon are about to leave on a pilgrimage. They are going to travel across Europe to Santiago de Compostela. Foreign travel is dangerous even for well armed men, and attacks on pilgrims are common place, but an even greater menace hangs over the city of Santiago.
For those who have not ready any of Michael Jecks medieval novels I can recommend them heartily. This novel takes Simon and Sir Baldwin away from their West Country environment but loses nothing of its mystery and suspense. If you like medieval mysteries, these are as good as any around.

5.0 out of 5 stars Anything by Jecks is Worth the Read, 23 July 2009

Jecks is a fantastic writer of medieval murder mystery who has only gotten better over time. If you are new to this author, you may find yourself searching for the first in this series. Then you will work to the most recent tomb and be amazed that he only gets better over time. Jecks is truly a credit to good research and writing. I have seen his work in a group writing effort and his share stands out amongst his co-authors. If you like Jecks, tell a friend and take the time to write a brief review. I don't give away content, just tell you that compared to others who write in this period Jecks is by far the best!
