Product Description

A superb and totally unique film portrait of this now largely-overlooked RAF warhorse, featuring rarely seen newsreel footage, original RAF films and never-before-released archive material from the Imperial War Museum film vaults. It includes air-to-air shots, gun camera film, weapons testing and formation flying, as well as a unique wartime RAF Tempest recognition film, ground crew training film material, interviews with Tempest pilots and more.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good potted history 24 Jan 2009
The Tempest had a brief career in the past war. This DVD pulls on some good archive material and pilot and ground crew interviews to put the Tempest's contribution on the page. The footage is especially good. There is some additional footage (presumably a maintenance training film) on how to troubleshoot the aircraft hydraulics systems.

It lacks a little on telling the story of the air to air battles that the aircraft took part in, concentrating more on the air to ground, but the section dealing with V1 engagements was good.

As a compliment to the DVD, read Closterman's 'Big Show'.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tempest at war 21 Aug 2011
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
I have to admit i new a lot less than i thought about the Tempest before i watched this dvd,one of the finest prop driven aircraft ever built the Tempest had a distinguished service life to say the least, the dvd pays a fitting tribute to this,68 minutes long plus seven minutes of extras,i was spellbound from start to finish. The dvd does hold a few surprises, one of the veterans says the Meteor did not take part in shooting down the V1,what is said about wing tipping the same V1 will come as a surprise to many, first class footage, lots of information and veteran interviews, for me one of the best in this brilliant series of dvd, highly recommended.
