Product Description

IF I TELL YOU (Songs of Maury Yeston) is the first solo album devoted to songs by the Tony-winning composer of Nine: The Musical, Grand Hotel, Titanic and Death Takes a Holiday. Yeston waited nearly thirty years before allowing a solo disc devoted to his work, but he found the perfect interpreter in Osnes, with her crystalline soprano, her delicate yet devastating way with a lyric, and her youthful effervescence and intensity. Drawn from Osnes's sold-out performances at 54 Below in November of 2012, IF I TELL YOU includes a generous selection of Yeston's musical theatre songs (including several handpicked for this album and receiving their first recording here), as well his ravishing December Songs.

5.0 out of 5 stars I'd not heard of her, now I can't get enough! 19 Aug 2013

Some of you may know her. I didn't, but my partner found her on the Internet and we were both amazed by her voice. And she lives up to all expectations. Good choice of songs as well. Maury Yeston has written music and/or lyrics for musicals like Nine and Titanic, both of which won him Tony Awards. Well worth a punt!

5.0 out of 5 stars Must buy!!! - Laura Osnes 29 Jun 2013
By Simon
Format:MP3 Download|Verified Purchase
Laura Osnes has the most amazing voice. Her ability to sing any style of music and interpret it perfectly it amazing. This is a must buy album, as is any recording that Laura Osnes is involved with. All the songs are written by music theatre writer Maury Yeston. The album includes the song cycle "December Songs" (Track 5-14). Laura's perfect soprano voice soars through every song with enthusiasm and beauty. Every inflection in her voice is amazing.

Really glad I bought this CD. Great songs sung by an angel. There is one song, By The River, that is just so moving I find myself pushing a button on my steering wheel to play it again. Just wow!

5.0 out of 5 stars A definite must-have for any Laura Osnes fan! 1 July 2013

I recently discovered Laura Osnes through her performance as the title role in the most recent production of Rogers & Hammerstein's Cinderella that opened on Broadway this year. She quickly became one of my favorite vocal artists. This album is absolutely incredible--I listen to it over and over again. Even without visual aid, Laura Osnes brilliantly "acts out" the story of each song, and her emotions are as on pitch as her crystal-clear voice. The December Songs cycle is beautiful, especially "Please Let's Not Even Say Hello," "By the River," and "What a Relief." I look forward to hopefully seeing more recordings from Laura Osnes. In addition to this, you can enjoy her voice on the cast recordings of Bonnie and Clyde (Frank Wildehorn) and Rogers & Hammerstein's Cinderella.

5.0 out of 5 stars Meant for Each Other 17 Jun 2013

Like the rich, satisfying combination of a fine wine and a gourmet meal, Laura Osnes and Maury Yeston are the perfect pair. This is a stunning collection: exquisitely sung and acted, expertly and lovingly arranged. I for one am thrilled that Ms. Osnes isn't singing Sondheim, Rodgers and Hammerstein or any of the countless other theater composers we hear on this kind of album ad nauseum. If anyone doubts that Yeston is as good as they come, this offering (including the haunting song cycle "December Songs") is sure to challenge that estimation. Bravo all around. I'm already wearing this one out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Laura Osnes sings these beautiful songs like an angel. 19 Nov 2013

My daughter introduced me to Laura Osnes through her role as Cinderella on Broadway. We saw the show and she was great. Since then we have become big fans of hers.

This is an absolutely beautiful recording! Laura Osnes has a beautifual voice that is very clear and pure. And these songs by Maury Yeston are heartbreakingly beautiful. I had not heard these songs before, but I am glad that they have been recorded. I listen to this all the time now. My favorites on the album are:

December Snow: a great song. Laura sings this in a way that you feel the December cold as she sings.

Please Let's Not Even Say Hello: This song about a woman who is so afraid of loss that she doesn't even want to say hello to a man is sung with a sad longing that leaves you hoping that she will change her mind and take the chance.

Bookseller in the Rain: I can just picture this as Laura sings the lyrics.

Other favorites include I Am Longing, I Had a Dream About You, and By the River.

If you like beautiful ballads and Broadway showtunes, you will love this album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gorgeous recital by the amazing Laura Osnes 21 Sep 2013
By Ingrid Haas Martinez - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I have been a fan of Laura Osnes since I first saw her in ANYTHING GOES in the role of Hope Harcourt. I later on saw her as Bonnie in Frank Wildhorn's BONNIE AND CLYDE and, most recently I saw her as Ella in CINDERELLA. One of the things that I most like about her is that she not only sings beautifully but she is also a very passionate artist who gives intention and depth to the lyrics she sings. That is one of the reasons why I bought this CD, because Osnes is extremely good in telling stories through her gorgeous voice. Add to that the masterful writing of composer Maury Yeston and you have a perfect pairing of singer-song writer.
All of the songs in this album are tailored made for Osnes's sweet soprano voice. In the classical music world it could be said it is a Lieder recital. Her diction is so clear and she pays so much attention to the words she sings that each song is a jewel by itself. All of the songs are beautiful and my favorite ones were "If I tell you", "December Snow", "My Grandmother's Love Letters", "I had a dream of you", "Only with you" and "I still hear the music". I highly recommend this CD to everyone who loves musicals and to get in touch with the intimate side of the songs of Yeston with the fabulous voice of Laura Osnes.
