I love this book - every page made me smile or want to sit down and start writing straight away. Highly recommended when you just want an intriguing little prompt or nudge to get you started - and who knows where it might lead?

From a ditty to stick on the fridge to the next great British novel, most of us need a bit of help to get started and this brilliant little book may be the answer. Basically it's designed to kickstart the imagination. Every page features a written prompt supported by some quirky graphic (so it's good to look at as well as inspirational). Open at random and off you go - it really is that simple. No matter whether it's for your eyes only or for that friend of a friend who works in publishing, I defy you not to come up with something - a poem, a short story, a long story, a radio play, a film script. In short, `Tell An Outrageous Lie' will get your creative juices flowing. And if you don't think you've got any, think again...and again...and again (there are 188 prompts after all). Even my two sons - aged 9 and 11 - enjoyed flicking through this book and the youngest was inspired to make up a poem on the spot. It's a bit too rude to repeat here, but think of the kind of instant rhyme for `CCTV' that a 9 year-old boy fascinated by bodily functions might come up with and you'll get the idea. Perhaps most important of all, this book doesn't take itself too seriously - Ms. Wheeler's intro sets just the right tone. You can have fun with it. On the other hand, `An incident that begins with a missspelt word' may turn out to be the start of something really rather wonderful.
