4.0 out of 5 stars Good Old Soul Music, 7 Jun 2009
By Mike Hodgson "Mystery Tramp" (Halifax, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears produce some of the most exciting music I've heard in ages. Soul music as we used to know it, in the great days of Stax/Volt/Atlantic. A band thats not too tight- just a little loose - they're obviously enjoying the music as much as the listener. Great horn sound, reminiscent of Muscle Shoals and the Memphis Horns, and Joe Lewis knows his way around a song on vocals. Look out for this band playing live, and watch for the sparks to fly!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very different, 22 May 2009
By Ian Williamson (Aberdeen Scotland United Kingdom) - See all my reviews

New band, old sound (sort of) a bit of James Brown meets rock and roll. Great brass from the Honeybears and mean singing and guitar from Black Joe Lewis, the whole CD makes you want to jump around favourites are Sugarfoot, I'm Broke, Boogie and Humpin'.
Well worth a listen if you like any kind of music

4.0 out of 5 stars Welcome back, Jake and Elwood!!, 26 Aug 2009
By P MARTIN (Hertfordshire, UK) - See all my reviews
There is a British legend that King Arthur (he of the Round Table) is sleeping underground until he wakes to deal with the greatest crisis that will ever threaten the island of Britain.

Similarly we've always known that in a dark cave somewhere, possibly in the Catskills or even the Appalachians, the Legendary Blues Brothers have been hibernating, ready to be revived in a time of need.

That time is clearly now, because Black Joe Lewis and his Honeybears' latest CD is plainly Jake and Elwood brought back to life, dusted down for the twenty first century and brought blazing back into the limelight. Minus all the "Minnie the Moocher" nonsense of course, and with added "parenteral advisory lyrics".

All this is by way of a compliment. Terrific good time hard-driving, brass heavy blues music. Great fun and well worth buying.
