Book Description

Television Production offers you a very practical guide to professional TV and video production techniques. Here you will find straightforward descriptions and explanations of the equipment you will use, and discover the best ways to use it. The authors also tell you how to anticipate and quickly overcome commonly-encountered problems in television production.

You will explore in detail all the major features of television production, learning the secrets of top-grade camerawork, persuasive lighting techniques, effective sound treatment, as well as the subtle processes of scenic design and the art of video editing.

Successful program-making is about communication and persuasion. It is not merely a matter of knowing which buttons to press, but how to influence and persuade your audience, hold their attention, develop their interest, and arouse their emotions. This book tells you how to do all this - and much more.

The 15th edition has been completely revamped to include lessons on:
* 3D- how to use 3D cameras, field-tested 3D workflows, and more
* Shooting with DSLRs
* Lighting with LEDs

This book was mandatory for a production course, but I would suggest just sharing a copy with a classmate or friend rather than buy it. Unless you have regular exams or quizzes, you won't really need a textbook for a production class that is hands-on. The fun thing at least is that there are references to modern shows like "The Office" and helpful illustrations of concepts like 3-point lighting or different types of camera shots in case you need to study them further.
1.0 out of 5 stars I dont reccomend these people. 23 Jan 2014

I finally got my book nearly a month after I ordered the book, and the book was in pretty rough shape for a book that was supposed to be in nearly perfect condition. The tracking number was a bad number and I tried contacting the store multiple times and never recieved a response, I will never buy from them again EVER.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for TV students and TV professionals who want to learn more 29 Sep 2012

This was a required book for one of my TV classes and I'm very glad I bought it new and not used or rented it. Its a great resource. The glossary is very useful and the pictures in it are bright and full of detail. This book isn't that large for containing 450 pages. Its pretty slim and definitely a good investment.
