Product Description

A Barlow lens doubles the magnifying power of your eyepiece by doubling its effective focal length. For example, an 18mm eyepiece used with a 2x Barlow lens would have the magnifying power of a 9mm eyepiece. It's like having two eyepieces in one! If you're looking for an affordable way to achieve high-power viewing of the moon and planets, double stars and even close-up views of terrestrial subjects, a Barlow lens is the answer. Barlow lenses mount into either your telescope's focuser or visual back.

Barlow 2x 27 Feb 2011
This 2x Barolow may not be the best quality Barlow, but for a beginner like me it does what it says on the tin, so to speak.

Affordable 8 May 2012

I bought this Barlow lens to accompany a 3" reflector scope. It works well enough, but seems to have a cheap lens, as it has a bit of a prismatic effect. I use this to aid viewing, though, as I can use my focus knob to turn super-bright Venus into a hazy orange globe, making it better resemble the photos of the planet itself. I know it's not the real deal, but it works good as a show for the family, and I can still get a pretty decent focus out of this lens.

That being said, part of the poor performance could be due to my small scope. I understand that. But upon inspecting the lens, I can't hold my scope to blame, as it is perfectly crisp and clear on its own. So lens performance must be a fraction of a factor, as the poor performance is observable even at low power.
