Telephoto Lens Kit Phone Camera Zoom 12X + Aluminum Tripod + Case... I used to be really into photography with a lot of kit for a traditional 35mm SLR. With children now and having to lug around loads of bags etc the camera kit rarely sees the light of day. I stumbled across these phone lenses a few years ago now and thought they couldn't be any good given their low price but having had others lenses on my previous phone decided to buy a few more for my new Galaxy note 2. i have an 8x zoom already and whilst this lens does zoom a bit further it is not a huge difference. Perhaps more like 10x zoom. However the big improvement is that it does not obscure the camera lens at all so there are no corners clipped with this unlike my 8x and others I have had in the past. With the tripod you can really set it up and take some lovely photos. Given that the camera tech on the Note 2 is pretty comprehensive with all the settings, ISO control, effects, exposure, white balance etc as you would expect this really enhances the camera meaning you don't need to use the digital zoom and lose quality. One slight gripe is the thread between lens and phone cover is not wonderful and you need to be careful not to cross thread it. However other than that a totally superb product. I would thoroughly recommend this to anyone who wants to take long range photos at the drop of a hat. i.e. you can carry this around in your pocket virtually and take shots that you otherwise would not be able to or would be pointless in doing so.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brings your phone's camera to a whole new level 24 Oct. 2013

Lens: very good. Fixed zoom but clear, easy to focus, looks and feel quite good for this little price.

Case: smooth rubber, very well made (good finition). The thread is a bit short for a heavy lens so it requires some care (no bumping, and holding the lens too when taking a picture).

Tripod + holder ring: the ring is very good, nice finish. The tripod isn't too bad to start with but you might consider getting a better one later.

Pouch: good for the lens but you won't put anything else inside as it isn't really big (anyway, you don't want the tripod rubbing against the aluminum shell of the lens). The case is definitely too big for the pouch.

Guide: very short but clear. (Only 1 bad point: it is a generic one, so the text speaks about 'our iPhone'. ;) )

Why getting a lens? Not only to have a decent zoom and avoiding using the digital one, but it also helps to get pictures with the focus on a subject plus a blurry background. The results are just astonishing for a smartphone!

For this, you just need a good application, and to easily manage the (auto)focus and do the most of the camera built in your phone, give a try to FV-5 (from Google Play: "Camera FV-5 is a professional camera application for mobile devices, that puts DSLR-like manual controls in your fingertips. Tailored to enthusiast and professional photographers, with this camera application you can capture the best raw photographs so that you can post-process them later and get stunning results. The only limit is your imagination and creativity!")

1.0 out of 5 stars let me explain guys... 8 Jun. 2014

Hi all,

1) movement is limited. the tripod is not long enough to handle relatively 'huge' Galaxy Note 2. You will therefore need to rotate your note 2, to be able to give more freedom to the tripod to move. However, you will be limited for rotating your note 2 too, since this time balance between the zoom and the note 2 will be a problem.(to be continued..thanks amazon for limiting my speech!)

2) Zoom is actually not working. When you zoom off completely, the picture is fuzzy. You may think of handling with this problem by using note 2's own auto zoom. However, it will not work. You cannot fix this problem. The zoom is only working when you made a max zoom. This is another bad thing putting another limitation for the distance between the zoom and the source. Just imagine you have a zoom only working when its 12x zoom. Imagine how far you need to go back from the source to actually record a video or take a picture of the source you want.

3) In camera mode look at the top right and top left of the screen. you will see the case cover is in the picture frame. Why is this happening? (stupid me I did not realise that before). the camera output (the lens/mirror outside) of note 2 is kinda square, but the zoom has a circular camera input. So if the circular is not big enough than the square, you see this effect. just use a pencil and a paper. draw a square and then a circle in it. You see what is at the top left and top right (bottom left and bottom right too, but you do not see black corner on that parts on the frame). To get rid of this bad effect, you will need to zoom in a little bit. So, this is the another 'go back more please...'

do not spend your money for this, and just buy a tripod. Now this product is useless for me, since without zoom I cannot use the tripod only. zoom is already a waste of money anyway.

4.0 out of 5 stars I like it. 2 July 2014
It's a very useful add on to my galaxy note 2. It's not a zoom lens but a fixed 12x so beware that it works best over a loooong distance shot. Eg taking a photo of a plane on a runway or airfield where you cant get anywhere near. You will need a stand or tripod to get the best from it as the slightest twitch or strong fart will result in camera movement and a shakey image. Also the anti shake feature seems to make it worse when not using a stand as it struggles to cope with the constant movement of the camera and then your corrections as you try to compensate for them/it. Makes the distant shots that the default in built digital zoom struggles with in size and quality loss, better quality and much closer/bigger in the frame. The lens screws into a phone cover (supplied ) which allows easy fit and remove but beware that it's only a soft metal, brass I think, so don't screw it on tight or with force. The lens QUALITY is ONLY OK. It is a cheap buy to start with and I notice that the peripheral of the lens, photo has slight blurring. OK for me but if your a professional wanting perfect clear images not so hot. My only gripe is I can't get get a 8x lens for the same fitment as 12x is very powerful and when you add the digital zoom as well its scarey. People or cows etc that are but specs or dots in the distance are clearly visible. Something the normal camera would never see.
