Product Description

Product Description

As part of its new food preparation range, Tefal has released the new Vitacompact Food Processor, which boasts 1000W of power. Compact, sleek and stylish and designed to create domestic bliss in the kitchen by making food preparation a breeze. This ultimate kitchen gadget can slice and grate, blend and knead, chop and whisk – not to mention the nifty citrus press – perfect for the budding chef. The high level of power (1000w) means that the Vitacompact is great for kneading heavy dough, slicing vegetables and chopping meat for burgers. What makes the Tefal Vitacompact unique is its handy storage drawer, positioned on the front to store some of the food processors attachments, putting an end to misplaced accessories and ideal for keeping a tidy kitchen. The Vitacompact looks stylish on any work surface, compact yet with a large 3L capacity bowl and 1.5L capacity blender. The two speeds and pulse setting means mixing can be controlled more easily so budding chefs can achieve the desired texture every time. For those wanting to bake their own bread and pastry the kneading blade on the Vitacompact stretches and manipulates the dough to give excellent results. First of all I have to start of by saying that I have nothing to compare my thoughts with for this item. It's the first food processor I've ever owned. I have always questioned the expense and whether it would be money well spent. I can tell you now that they are worth every penny. There's so much more I can cook and create now, my simple electric whisk and hand masher have been relegated to the back of the drawer. When it arrived the size of the box was worrying. I only have a tiny kitchen and i thought it was going to take up too much space but it really doesn't. It's quite neat and has its own storage drawer too.it's simple to use - although does create a fair amount of washing-up! I won't be using it on a daily basis but it will come in handy on many occasions.

I bought this because having previously owned a food processor (a while back) you lose an entire cupboard to one, so this being compact made it more kitchen friendly. Performs as you'd expect, speed 1+2, with the option to pulse, with normal processor parts and drink/blender style attachments.

    1. its compact, fits into my cupboard without taking up all the space.
    2. Comes with *lots* of accessories, with no where to store them - (annoyance no.1) how difficult would it have been to provide a small box?
    3. Has a handy disc drawer (cutter/grater), but this only holds 1 specific plastic disk and 2 metal ones - but the unit comes with 3 metal ones (why not make it a bit bigger?)

    Oddities;

    1. On the grater blade, there's slight issue, the metal disks are a good (5mm?) narrower than the width of the processor, such that if you grate onion or potato you'll end up with a large chunk which manages to fail to grate and spins around the top, only to slowly move through the gap and into the main section with the grated food.

    2. is quite tricky to get it to lock in place and to mount the plates etc - might be the same with all machines though.

So all in all, its fine, nothing impressive, but allow for all the accessories needed if you're short on space.

I can only agree with the previous one star review naming this product as having "poor design and poor instructions". It does.

The first issue is that it comes with an utter myriad of attachments. This shouldn't be a problem except that Tefal's approach to this has been to create a table on a single page of a small manual showing that part A1 goes with part H3 if you want to do so and so... it's like reading a dense Excel document. To add insult injury it comes with a glossy booklet too that's full of recipes but there's no actual instructions! Why expend all that energy on recipes in a glossy booklet without telling us what goes with what??? Is it too hard to have a colour coded sticker on each piece?

As for the poor design, there's a plastic latch on the bottom of the main food processing jug. Or there should be. In my case it was broken off so the processor wouldn't start at all. Basically the operation of this product is entirely dependent on a tiny bit of transparent plastic and without it it won't work. Great.

trying to get to grips with the different attachments. the instructions are not very clear about the different uses for the blades and i have nearly come to blows with this machine. trying to fathom out how to grate carrots took for ever!! why dont the makers clearly say what each part does? Bowl is very flimsy for the price of machine. hope it lasts!

First of all I just want to say I am happy with the product.
If this is your first food processor however you might find some difficulties figuring out which item does what and especially the locking position of the main bowl.
However I am happy with this product (had it for a week only so if anything will go bad I'll edit my review).

I just have one question (I swear I tried for half an hour to figure it out) how do I fit the mini chopper? It's either a part that's missing or I don't know how to do that... could anyone help me out please?
    Really appreciate it.

    Thank you
    Regards,
    Julia

I've had this food processor for a couple of months now, and I've gotten quite a bit of use from it. The base unit itself is fast from compact as it is about 25cm cubed. And with the liquidiser attachment on top, it brings the whole unit to over 40cm which means it doesn't fit under my kitchen cabinets, and I have to pull it back and forth to use it.

The base itself had a handy suction cup underneath to stop it from moving and a tray below the main controls that store the 2 circular chopping discs.

All in all, it looks and feels cheap, yet it does it's job without fuss.

I had long fancied a food processor, so when the opportunity came along to try this I was only too ready to give it a go.

The first shock was the size of the box - it's huge!! The main unit itself is quite neat, and looks relatively straightforward to use. However, the number of attachments and accessories, some of which are quite large, quite frankly leaves me quite baffled. Do not even consider this if you have a small kitchen! There is a small storage section in the base of the unit, but this only holds a few (not all) of the blades provided. You still have the problem of where to store the many other attachments and accessories.

I have used the unit a couple of times, admittedly partly for the purposes of this review. (I hardly think Angel Delight justifies its use!) While it performs perfectly well, I have to say that the hassle of setting it up to perform the required task, coupled with the hassle of dismantling, washing, and storing well over a dozen pieces of equipment, rather outweighed the benefit of the food processor itself. It would have been easier, in the long run, to simply perform my tasks manually.

I can see where Tefal are going with this - a small-ish base unit with an array of attachments to cover most eventualities. Unfortunately, the sheer number and bulk of these attachments make the system unwieldy, clumsy, over-complicated, and difficult to store efficiently. To be honest, I didn't find it worth the bother, but perhaps if you have a large family, or you entertain for large numbers of people, it may prove worthwhile for you.
