Frequently Asked Questions
1) Why is my iron leaking from the soleplate when I fill it?
Please be advised that when filling up your iron with water you should have all settings on a “no steam” setting. Ensure the iron is unplugged. Fill the iron up, plug in, switch on, then turn the dials to the settings required ensuring that the iron is set to a temperature where steam will be produced. This will ensure that the steam valve within the water tank remains closed and will prevent any water from leaking out of the water tank when water is added.
2) Why does steam not come out from all of the steam holes?
Not all of the steam holes release steam, the smaller holes on the soleplate that look like they might be steam holes are actually designed to assist soleplate glide ability.
3) Why did my iron smoke on first use?
When heating your iron for the first time, you may notice a small amount of odour and smoke, this is simply the engineering residues from the manufacturing process burning off. These are harmless and will quickly disappear.
4) Why do some water drops drip from the ironing board onto the floor during ironing?
It is normal. Your iron generates a lot of steam; this steam is condensing on the board. Some water drops can appear underneath the ironing board and drip onto the flooring.
5) Why does water leak from the soleplate when the iron is stores or when it is cooling off?
Your iron has been stored horizontally, without emptying the water tank and with the selector placed on steam position. When you store your iron horizontally, check that the tank is empty and the steam selector is set to "DRY" position.
6) My iron is producing no or little steam
Check the following points: - The tank is empty or almost empty; add more water, - The selected temperature is too low and does not allow steam to be produced; set the thermostat to the steam zone (between two dots and MAX), - If your iron has a Dry/Steam control, set it to the Steam position, - Scale has built up in your iron; descale it.
7) What water should I use for ironing?
Untreated tap water:
Your appliance has been designed to function using untreated tap water. If your water is very hard, we recommend you use a mix of 50% untreated tap water and 50% distilled or demineralised water.
Types of water not to use:
Heat concentrates the elements contained in water during evaporation. The types of water listed below may contain organic waste, mineral or chemical elements that can cause spitting, brown staining or premature wear of the appliance: water from clothes dryers, scented or softened water, water from refrigerators, batteries, air conditioners, rain water, boiled, filtered or bottled water. These types of water should not be used in your TEFAL iron. Also only use distilled water as advised above.
Always remember: Never use rainwater or water containing additives (like starch, fragrance or water from domestic appliances). Such additives can affect the steam properties and at high temperature form deposits in the steam generator chamber which are likely to stain your washing.
8) Can I put my iron away right after ironing?
No, leave the iron to cool down before putting it away and follow the four tips: empty out the water remaining in the tank, set the thermostat to the minimum, close the steam control and stand it upright or place it on the base (depending model).
9) What should I do to maintain my iron correctly?
Four tips: After use, empty the tank, close the steam control, set the thermostat to minimum and stand the iron upright or place it on the base (depending on model). Cleaning: Use a damp soft cloth to wipe your iron and never use cleaners or solvents. If your iron has an auto-clean function, refer to the instruction manual before using it.
- Always use untreated water in your iron. If your water is very hard, we recommend you use a mix of 50% untreated tap water and 50% distilled water.
- Avoid placing your iron on sharp objects such as zip fasteners and metal buttons.
- Do not put your iron down flat on rough surfaces.
- Be careful not to drop the iron as this can cause leaks and damage to the appliance.
Tefal owes its origins to Frenchman Marc Grégoire, an engineer and keen fisherman. Monsieur Grégoire wanted the reel on his rod to run more smoothly, and experimented in the 1950s to see if a non-stick coating would work. It did, but it was his wife Collette who made the real breakthrough, suggesting the coating would be more useful in making cookware easier to use and clean. Now, Tefal is the number one name in non-stick products and small appliances, operating in more than 120 countries. Tefal remains committed to making household tasks easier and cooking results better, through a constant flow of ideas, technology and innovation. Examples of that cutting-edge innovation can be seen in the ActiFry, the AirBake baking range and Tefal's Thermo Spot, which ensures your pans are always the optimum temperature to start cooking.

- The ultraglide surface on the iron cuts down on the number of times you actually have to run the iron over the cloth
- The iron is light which means that your wrist doesn't ache when you have a lot to iron
- The cord has a good design which keeps out of the way when you're ironing
- It's anti-scale which is very important in hard water areas
- The extra steam shot is helpful with difficult creases
- The instruction leaflet is not that helpful...just pics and I ended up going to the website for more info
- It's a good weight for me but I know some prefer a heavy iron
About a month ago it stopped delivering very much steam, no matter what combination of settings the only way of getting a good dose of steam was pushing the button for a burst of steam. Then last week water starting leaking, but not where you might think, it was coming from out of the handle, where the two buttons for steam burst and spray are. I was then fearing possible electrocution, so I arranged a return and now have Phillips!
I'll highly recommend this iron.
