Tefal owes its origins to a Frenchman, Marc Grégoire, and his wife, Colette. M.     Best toaster I have ever owned. Cooks the most perfect cheese on toast in under 3 minutes. Very quick to heat up and gets red hot (literally the top element glows red after a min or so). The clicking noises it makes are as follows:

    Clicks to let you know you have turned the power on or off.
    Clicks to let you know when you hit the power button on or off.
    Clicks when you turn the timer switch.

    Important that it does make these noises as it gets so hot so quickly you must be very careful not to burn yourself.

    This is a lovely little machine which is much better than a conventional toaster and looks smart as well. A wider range of use. Adverse reviews mentioned 'cutting out' of the element. I would like to say I think this is the thermostatic control operating i have deduced. The presence of the booster button meaning quite high heats can be obtained means that it could rise to dangerously high heats in a small space, so the thermostat cuts it out to produce an overall even heat. Very good and safe. As a retired lady I appreciate sitting down to watch my lunch cheese on toast cook at eye level. is very very good.

    On first use I noticed it cooks rather unevenly; because of the one position of the grill rack/tray, most foods will be much closer to the upper heating element than the lower. This is annoying for certain foods, eg. pizza which can burn on the top before the bottom is properly cooked.

    It is also quite noisy during operation. As well as the expected rattles as it heats up and expands, there is a constant rapid clicking noise which speeds up and slows down, probably to do with a thermostat but quite annoying.

    After using this on only a handful of occasions, it started to 'cut out' in the middle of cooking something, and the 'buzzer' makes a strange sound. The only way to continue cooking is to unplug it from the mains, wait anything from 1 minute to 15 minutes, plug it in again and continue. This isn't ideal when you are trying to cook food.
