Product Description

Product Description

All the pans in the new Sensorielle range feature Tefal's latest and best Intensium non stick coating for cooking without oil, and the unique Thermo Spot.

Intensium is made up of an extra hard mineral base, fused to nine layers of non stick coating. Intensium is metal utensil safe and offers superior durability.

The coating works with Tefal's Thermo Spot, which glows solid red to let you know when your pan is pre-heated to 200 degrees, the optimum temperature to start cooking, to help add a touch of the professional to any cook. There’s no risk of the pan overheating or underheating with the Thermo Spot, you can sear your food at just the right temperature to seal in the flavour in the same way a professional chef would.

Like all the pans in the Sensorielle range, the 26cm square grill pan features a high-performance anti-warp Resistal base, which is infused with copper particles for extremely effective heat distribution. The base is resistant to thermal shocks, so it won't warp if you put it under a cold tap while it's still hot. The base is suitable for gas and electric hobs.

The pans have aluminium bodies for even heat distribution, avoiding hot spots that could cause food to burn, and the non stick exterior is easy to clean.

The pans have curved comfort handles, and are dishwasher and ovensafe to 180 degrees.

About Tefal

Tefal owes its origins to Frenchman Marc Gregoire, an engineer and keen fisherman. Monsieur Gregoire wanted the reel on his rod to run more smoothly, and experimented in the 1950s to see if a non-stick coating would work. It did, but it was his wife Collette who made the real breakthrough, suggesting the coating would be more useful in making cookware easier to use and clean. Now, Tefal is the number one name in non-stick products and small appliances, operating in more than 120 countries.Tefal remains committed to making household tasks easier and cooking results better, through a constant flow of new ideas, technology and innovation. Examples of that cutting-edge innovation can be seen in the ActiFry, the AirBake baking range and Tefal's unique Thermospot, which ensures your pans are always the perfect temperature to start cooking.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent for Steak 26 Oct 2011

What is a grill pan? Wikipedia helpfully advises:
A frying pan with a series of parallel ridges used for cooking food with radiant heat on a stovetop, or with a metal grid in it. This is referred to as a "griddle pan" in the UK and Ireland. See Grill (cooking).
A pan with a raised grill insert, used for cooking food under the grill part of a cooker. This is referred to as a "broiler pan" in the US and Canada. See grilling.
The NATO reporting name for the fire control radar of the Russian SA-12 missile system.

Fortunately this was not the third choice, but instead the first.

It should be noted that it is not a traditional frying pan as the ridges (which give the characteristic Bert Kwouk Grill Lines so beloved of Harry Hill) interfere with many recipes. This is for grilling in the French bistro sense. I found it excellent with steak, and effective at spreading the heat compared to a round pan. I can see it working well with fish as well as meat. But its use limitations will mean it is a nice addition to a batterie de cuisine rather than a basic part.

Addition: after some months using the pan I continue to be very pleased with it, you do have to ensure it is very hot before first placing the meat, and some attention is needed to the heat source relative to the edges of what is a large pan. It can accommodate two beaten steaks plus onions with ease.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic griddle pan 28 Jun 2012

I have previously bought other pans in this range and this also lives up to the same high, non stick standard. However be aware it is not a grill pan for using under a grill but a griddle pan for usng on the hob and gives food those stripes!

    4.0 out of 5 stars Non-Stick Grill Pan 12 Nov 2011

This grill pan is a nice addition to my kitchen and each time I have used it I have had some very pleasing results.

The first time I used it I was pleased to see the heat spot indicate when the pan was hot enough to put my food in and I dropped my meatballs into the pan with sizzling delight. An additional bonus of the grill ridges is that is keeps the meatballs in a stable position as they brown on one side until I turned them over! When cooking salmon in this another time I did notice the grill lines on the skin, but I'll be honest and say this was subtle. I think other reviewers have mentioned that the grill ridges are deeper on other brands, but they do the job well enough here.

The pan has a nice heft to it and it feels well made and substantial. I found it easy to clean and store and I'll just as happily reach for this at those times when I used to grab my standard frying pan.

This is a well made and versatile pan from a well respected brand and if you are looking for a pan of this type then this is as good a place to start looking as any.

Feel free to check out my blog which can be found on my profile page.

1.0 out of 5 stars VERY DISAPPOINTING 3 Oct 2011

Cooks well, just like a frying pan. Easy to clean and completely non-stick. BUT, this is not a "grill pan" because it simply does not cook like a grill pan - it does not make parallel cooking marks on meat and fish, and you get no grill pan burn lines. I bought this to replace a 4.99 grill pan from IKEA which did a much better job. I will now need to return to IKEA to buy a proper grill pan.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice sturdy pan, good value 10 Nov 2011
    By Mrenshaw TOP 1000 REVIEWER
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
I'm not really sure what a grill pan is and I used it more of a frying pan, however when I put some homemade beef burgers in they came out looking like they had been on a BBQ due to the griddle lines in the pan - call me sad but I liked that!

When cooking other food stuff - mushroom, onions, etc then the ridges really got in the way more than anything, (even though the ridges are tiny) but this is due to the fact they were cut up but still had to keep moving from the ridges. The pan is also non-stick as you'd expect. The blurb says it doesn't need oil (hence making more healthy) but I don't use oil to fry with anyhow so can't comment!

There is a spot in the middle that tells you what temperate the pan is at, but to be honest if you need to use that then you'd be better off putting ping dings in the microwave instead of real cooking.

The pan is a nice square shape and larger than the ones I normally use - just means you can cook more stuff at the same time but it's useful. It has a weighty feel about it and it a sturdy build.

It's not an earth shattering product, but as a pan it's better than most products I've used and does the job it's designed for well
