About Tefal

Tefal owes its origins to Frenchman Marc Gré

  • goire, an engineer and keen fisherman. Monsieur Gré
  • goire wanted the reel on his rod to run more smoothly, and experimented in the 1950s to see if a non-stick coating would work. It did, but it was his wife Collette who made the real breakthrough, suggesting the coating would be more useful in making cookware easier to use and clean. Now, Tefal is the number one name in non-stick products and small appliances, operating in more than 120 countries.Tefal remains committed to making household tasks easier and cooking results better, through a constant flow of new ideas, technology and innovation. Examples of that cutting-edge innovation can be seen in the ActiFry, the AirBake baking range and Tefal's unique Thermospot, which ensures your pans are always the perfect temperature to start cooking.

    As they say, the design is perfect when you cannot remove anything else. This model has nothing you won't use unlike other models you pay for extra to never use.

    It does not have:
    -any buttons;
    -any switch;
    -any beeping sounds;
    -any timer;
    -any programs.

    It has:
    -steam making part;
    -3 containers with holes + 1 little container with no holes (must be placed inside a bigger one);
    -a small indicator suggesting how much water you need for it to work for 10 mins, 20 mins, etc (plus a few pictures with typical foods).

    You just plug it in and it starts generating steam. You won't even need a manual, if you remember you need to pour water in the very bottom part, on top of which there's an extra plate for collecting water going down during the steam generating process.

    It will fit all kitchens, yet it is big enough as it has 3 bowls. Really, a masterpiece.

    I bought this item a month or two ago and I use it nearly every day. I look at a saucepan and then put the steamer on. It is ideal for me as I live on my own. I normally cook meat, veg and potatoes as a main meal and it does this admirably. It doesn't seem to overcook the food and of course once it is loaded and switched on you can leave it and do your own thing. It sounds a buzzer when it has finished. I think it is great and I would recommend it to any one that is cooking for themselves.

    The real down side to the steamer is Tefal and there short sighted approach to creating documentation. Yes there is an instruction book but it is next to useless apart from the safety information. It must be in an hundred languages and yet it manages to tell you nothing. The book relies on symbols, there own symbols and if you don't know the code you are stuffed. The hardest thing I found to cook was rice. I went through the small instruction book with the many languages and the confusing symbols several times and could not work out the quantities to use. There was one symbol that looked like a box of porridge oats being emptied into a bowl with some numbers next to it. Well apparently the box is not porridge it is rice and so eventually I had the right amounts.

    Well despite the instruction book this is a wonderful cooking aid and I am glad that I chose to buy it.

    I had a Tefal steamer that has lasted me for years which was used daily and I loved it. This is a good replacement & more compact for storing. Cooks great rice, my only criticism is the water added to the base dictates the cooking time so may take some getting used to. However the benefit is that you only use the water required so saves heating water unnecessarily.

    the product is so good, it works well and does the job. it is enough for more than two people, if you want to use all 3 containers, then it is enough for maybe 4-5
    it is very hard to know where to put the water when you want to start it just from the catalog, it took me few minutes to understand that water needed to be in the very bottom container that is direly connected to electricity, and all other parts are put above it.
    my recommendation to get its best performance is to boil water before starting it to work, this way you save about 30 minutes of waiting for it to boil the water, and it starts working directly and steaming. my second recommendation is not to use all 3 container, and use only 1 or 2 for fast and better result. However, you can add the third one after you make sure that the meat in the very bottom container is almost ready :).
    it takes about 35-40 minutes to cook mean and vegitables in one container when the water added is boiled before you start the machine. and that is great result, and the containers sizes are good, and not small, for sure enough for 2 people meal.
    I highly recommend this product, as it is very good and i am using it fore more than 2 months almost daily.

    Bought this to steam vegetables when I am just cooking the meat in my small slow cooker. Takes about 45 minutes to do carrots and baby new potatoes using the bottom bowl. The lid does fit all the bowls, but if you only use one bowl it has to be the bottom one as the other two are too big to fit on the part where the steam comes out. Some steam comes out of the holes in the lid, not as much as would with a metal steamer on the hob, but do not put your hand over it when you reach for the lid handle, put the holes at the back. Ow!

    The bowls all fit into themselves and the total space it needs when collapsed is 8" x 8" x 11". Mine has a switch on the side so it can be switched on and off while still plugged in. Switches itself off when it runs out of water, so you will need to buy a timer. Comes with an illustrated manual in the style of a kindergarten book for slow learners or Americans, but it's all common sense really.
