After trying the american boxers grill the problem I found is the cleaning when the non stick has after use lost its non stick. So I wanted and up grade to one that you could remove the grill plates and was a better build quality. This one fits the bill as its a well made machine with cast iron plates which are sold and provide the nice stripped effect on the food, it heats up in a few minutes cooks the food then switched itself off. It also has 3 cooking positions and is a great grill.

We needed to replace our 5th George Foreman grill, so took a lot of time looking at offerings.
All our previous grills have suffered through loss of non-stick and even removing the plates on 4 of them to wash by hand has not helped. So we were tentative with our purchase, but need not have worried. This little grill is fantastic !!
The plates remove and replace very easily, are very easy to wash and the cooking of the grill is far, far quicker than we have previously experienced. The durability of the plates already appears far superior. The integral drip dray is much better - only one niggle is that when using in contact grill position, need to be careful of drips from the back of machine - this is not an issue when using in oven position. Overall, looks great and was a great buy from Amazon.

Bought this to replace our previous model Tefal Home Grill, which wasn't being promoted at that stage by Jamie Oliver but was essentially the same machine. That lasted a good six years with us using it nearly every week, and only had to be replaced as the grill finally lost its non-stick coating and we managed to burn a hole through the cable.
Pros:
Lighter than the previous model
Cable safer than previous model
Plates able to be taken out and washed either by hand or in dishwasher
Floating hinge makes grilling food of variable depths really easy
Easily stored on its 'feet', meaning it can be stowed upright.
Instruction manual uses pictures and is quite simple, so no mangled language barriers to get through.
Gets very hot and so cooks food thoroughly.
Cons:
Position of controls mean they can get coated with splash from the grill
Supposedly not meant to carry the grill by the handle - it's such an obvious thing to do that I suspect users are doing it anyway without thinking about it. (Why didn't Tefal make this a carry handle?)
Insertion of top plate isn't intuitive - why doesn't the outflow spout sit toward the fat collecting trap? Surely it wouldn't have cost that much more to manufacture two different facing plates?
Personally I had no problems with working out the controls and am confused that some people found them confusing. There's only an on/off switch and a dial that lets you choose three heat settings. How can that be confusing?
I wait with interest to see if this model lasts as long as our previous one, but have high hopes given Tefal seem to have given some serious thought to the design and functionality.

This grill is highly recommended! 100% better than the previous one we had (George Foreman) and cooks everything quickly and to perfection. Easy to clean and comes with a good fat deposit tray. A must have kitchen item.

Finally found a grill that does what it's supposed to!
The foreman grills are too small or not hot enough (the last Foreman was so "cool" that I could hold my finger on the plates when fully warmed up!!).
This one actually grills stuff rather than just warming it up a bit like the foreman ones.
The only (slight) complaint? .. When you lift up the top grill to remove the food it drips a tiny bit behind the grill (tray doesn't quite stick out enough at the back) The foreman ones were always dribling all over the place whereas the Tefal is just a tiny bit.
Food tastes better because it's actually grilled rather than stewed (nearest thing to a BBQ taste)

I cannot recommend it highly enough. After using numerous grills this one is finally perfect for us. It actually grills meat instead of stewing it and it makes perfect toasted sandwiches too. We use the highest setting (3) for meat, mostly chicken breast or loin pork and medium setting (2) for sandwiches. The grilling plated are excellent quality, can be successfully washed in the dishwasher. But soaking in hot soapy water for a few minutes and then simply washing up is enough. This is an excellent machine and worth every penny!!

Very versatile, easy to use cooks the food just right leaving plenty of moisture inside. It's very speedy and relatively easy to clean, plates are simple to remove and replace, no trouble cleaning them. I would give it a 4 and a 1/2 stars but this page won't allow it and would have given 5 stars had the book been better.
Like many other people have said, the instruction book is not very good. Yes it tells you what number to put the different foods on but not the weight or more importantly whether to leave the grill open or closed. No doubt practice will help but would have expected a better book to start with.

I got this grill about 4 weeks ago after I had to return the Gordon Ramsay grill I had bought recently. I had only had that one for about 2 months although it had been in use almost daily.
When I was researching to buy a grill I only chose the Gordon Ramsay one because of the price which was about half of Jamie Oliver's grill. The reason I had to send that grill back was that the locking mechanism for the plates broke. This had been mentioned as a problem in other reviews so worth taking a note off.
Now knowing how often I use the grill I decided to spend the extra money and get the Tefal grill I had wanted in the first place. (for some reason there are several identical Tefal grills with and without Jamie Olivers name to them - at very different prices too... so watch out when ordering) So far it looks as if it has been a very good decision.
This Jamie Oliver grill seems far superior to Gordon Ramsay's grill. Here are all the pluses in favour of Jamie Oliver:
- The design of the J O grill is much nicer looking in my oppinion
- The J O grill is more compact and stores in an upright position if needed so it takes up a bit less room in the kitchen.
- The J O grill has an in build and very large drip tray where the G R grill had to separate little cups which easily could get lost and also often would get displaced resulting in drips on the kitchen surface.
- The G R grill had cast iron plates which blackened at the back in use - a real mess cleaning them up. I'm not sure what material the plates on the J O grill is but they don't develop that sooty stuff at all
