Tefal owes its origins to a Frenchman, Marc Grégoire, and his wife, Colette. M. Grégoire, a keen fisherman, wanted to make his rod reel in more smoothly and, in the 1950's, experimented to see if a non stick coating might provide the answer. It did! I've had Tefal steamers for many years, and a big fan - but not of this steamer. My thoughts are: basket 1 does not fit quickly and well onto the base and it requires a "click" to fix into position, the baskets (in comparison to my previous machines) are made of a lesser quality plastic and with the "click" action required, could break easily. As there is no outside refill system, this creates a problem when the food is cooking and the machine is steaming and very hot, and trying to balance the baskets on the drip tray whilst filling the water reserve is dangerous. Then you again had to try and locate the "click" from basket to base. The machine is also much slower than my previous machines - they had the booster buttons. My recommendation would still be to buy Tefal - just not this model.

This is a good value steamer that does what it's made for!
The keep warm feature can cause you to overcook your veggies, so best not used for any length of time.
The 3 stacking units neatly fit inside each other when stored away, so takes up little space.
Quality product, no complaints at all and is my second Tefal veggie steamer.

This is my fourth Tefal steamer, and the best so far by a long way. The keep warm feature is very useful, and the way the baskets stack makes it very compact for storage. Using this excellent steamer produces fail-safe and healthy cooking and I would not wish to be without it - it is in use almost every day in our household.The loose base in the baskets make washing-up no problem and the oval shape more roomy than the old round ones.Fully recommended.

Not the best on the market
I have used two of these steamers during the last 3 years.It is easy enough to use. But I had to glue the handles on the lids back on and mend the timer. Read more

godd steaming
The Tefal Invent Model VC101616 steamer is excelllent The instruction booklet with times etc is excellent and when the steamer is not in use it packs away neatly.
