The only deep fryer that automatically cleans and filters the oil for you. Once the fryer senses that the oil has cooled to the appropriate temperature, it automatically filters the oil into a storage container below. This leaves the oil clean and ready for the next use. Once filtering is complete, simply put the oil storage container in the fridge for convenient storage. This Family Oleoclean Fryer is a large 2.2L oil and 1.0kg food capacity so can handle any meal from chips to tempura. It's so simple to use with this hands free oil filtering, digital timer and viewing window. Once you have finished frying and the oil is drained, simple put all non electrical parts in the dishwasher, it's as easy as that.

    The good: the machine is designed to be convenient in terms of cleaning, and it largely accomplishes its goal. When you're done you just take the fryer off the heating element and put it on the oil storage device, and as soon as the oil cools down to an OK temperature, it magically starts being strained into the storage container for the next use. Then you put the whole thing in the sink to clean. It also has a little minute resolution timer right on the device which means you can put in the food, and walk away for a minute, and come back when the timer goes off.

    The bad is: it doesn't reach the temperature it's supposed to reach. I was suspicious because sometimes it just didn't seem super hot when I'd put in the food. Then the thermostat would kick on again and it would suddenly start cooking more quickly. I'd set it to 190 degrees C and it would eventually shut off, but then it wouldn't turn back on again for a long time and my food would be soaking in the oil rather than being briskly cooked in it. If I set it to 170 degrees C, wait for the light to turn off (meaning it's ready) and then turn it up to 190 degrees C, the light would not come back on to reach 190. Why? Don't know!

    Then I bought a thermometer and confirmed that it was at least 20 degrees below the target temperature. And it cooled down even more so after it THOUGHT it had reached the desired temp.

    The most important part of deep fat cooking is proper temp. It's the difference between healthy and unhealthy cooking.

    I am returning it. Haven't yet decided whether to try again.

    We recently bought this appliance ignoring the poor reviews thinking it couldn't be as bad as all that and the price was good. It is, the timer has never worked, if that had been an important feature to us it would have gone straight back but since we didn't care we carried on. The valve in the bottom from which the oil drains into the receptor leaks leaving a pool of oil after each use. Although I haven't tested it I think I agree with the other reviewer that it doesn't reach temperature, chips, which came out dry and crispy from our late lamented De-Longhi are soggy on the outside and hard on the inside, I've taken to ignoring the dial setting and cranking it up as high as it'll go.

    Unlike a previous fryer, the timer just counts down to zero and emit a noise, it does NOT turn off the heating elements. A major disappointment given the extra fiver that "feature" cost - would have returned it if it wasn't for the time/effort to do so.

    One other point, is that the frying basket comes with a plastic addition which I'm presuming needs removing before first use (unless one likes melted plastic with your chips) but there's no mention of this. It does appear to be a 'packing' 'protection'...
