I never read the original (1984) Eastman & Laird's comics. I was in my late twenty's with the first (1987) series. My kids were just tots and we never watched it. Skipping quickly over "The Next Mutation" was the (2003) animated series. I couldn't get into it. But I have to say that I absolutely love this new (2012) Nickelodeon version.
I think sometimes the older you get the harder it is to find something to laugh about. Often, it is something simple that sneaks up on you unexpectedly to provide the invaluable chuckle. I do not remember why I started watching this show, but I have from the beginning, and it never lets me down with its humor. It actually made me go back to catch a couple of these previously mentioned versions and they still do nothing for me.
I enjoy the shows music with the opening theme being very up tempo and creative. The visuals are great, particularly when they are out at night running the roof tops. Excellent work in capturing the lights and darkness of the alleys, the buildings, and the night time sky. And the way they run, head down arms backwards, is hysterical.
The camaraderie between Mikey, Leo, Pizza, Donnie, Raph and unofficial 5th turtle (she wears the number five.) April O'Neil is excellent. Sensei Splinter is (Yes!...No!, Yes!...No!) very funny. Now comes Casey Jones into the mix. And this is not to forget Master Shredder, Karai and the foot clan. Also the Kraang, and their unique way of talking, (Very Funny! - Try it out it really irritates people!) And the featured toy...um, villain of each week. The show is just excellent.
And, as a constant pleasant shelf reminder there is always the unavoidable merchandise. Playmates Toys is no doubt euphoric. I also wonder if Paramount realizes, I am sure they do but don't care, that I get sick of having to buy 3-4 DVD's to get one full season. Ka-ching! I was very happy to see that it has been renewed for a third season
PS - I enjoy the newest TMNT incarnation so much that I started a collection as a visual reminder of the laughs it provides. You can find all these reviews in my profile page.
