Product Description

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Melee is a 3D fighting game based on the 2003 animated series. The combat system is similar to the earlier games based on that series, but unlike them, it is a competitive vs. fighting game. It is not a traditional one-on-one fighter, but an arena-based, four-player game - somewhat along the lines of Power Stone. There are two game modes. There is a single-player adventure mode in which you must guide one of ten characters (including six unlockables) through a series of 100 bouts that have you either beating up enemies, or, in a few cases, dodging bombs for a set amount of time. Completion of these portions unlocks the additional characters, bonus characters and stages for melee mode. Melee mode is the multiplayer portion. It has ten basic and twelve unlockable characters, and nine basic and fifteen unlockable stages. There are four game types which mirror popular types from first-person shooters. There is a deathmatchesque knock-out mode, where the goal is to score the most KOs. (Players respawn after being KOed.) There is also a Last Man Standing mode, where the goal is to be the only player left when the others are KOed, a King of the Hill, where you must stand on a glowing patch of ground and defend it from other players, and a Keep away mode, where you must hold a treasure chest and avoid other players who are trying to beat you up and take it.

Fun: 3.0 out of 5 stars
I bought "Mutant Melee" because I wanted a cheap Ninja Turtles game to give me some nostalgic thrills, and, to a certain point, you get this in this game. Based on the recent (2003 onwards) cartoon series, Melee sees you play as one of the many Turtles characters through a series of challenges, or, if you choose to go for the multiplayer melee mode, you can play mini-games or just kick the shell out of each other.

In terms of graphics, this game is pretty good by PS2 standards. I actually think the characters look great in their cell-shaded 3D forms, and the backgrounds aren't bad either, even if the camera angle is static, and sometimes pulls out too far to allow you to see what you're doing.

This game is unfortunately let down by repetitive missions and tricky game play. The missions range from being ridiculously easy to frustratingly hard - and it's not so much about skill as rapid button-mashing and good luck. (And stress levels run high when you simply can't get a move in edge ways!)

The game makes up for some of its trickiness by allowing you to play a good variety of characters in the melee battles, and a fair few are unlockable in the single player adventure mode, too (all complete with original voiceovers). Plus, since we live in an age where we expect additional extras, there is plenty of unlockable content, which includes comic book pages, character biographies, silly but fun animated out-takes, and Turtles toy photos.

I think if you're a hard-core Turtle-head you'll find something to enjoy in this game - even if it's simply the buzz of playing as your favourite character in locations that are familiar to you - but the game is unnecessarily tricky, disappointingly unoriginal, and I doubt that it'll have any replay value.

if your looking for a cheap game thats good you should not get this it has extremly poor graphics its so easy to complete the sounds get really annoying with the grunts that the turtles make and the gameplay is stupid and the missions are completely pointless theres not even any cutscenes gameplay is annoying you would attack one enemy and get attack by 7 others there isnt any replay value
