Reviews

United Kingdom released, PAL/Region 2 DVD: LANGUAGES: English ( Dolby Digital 2.0 ), WIDESCREEN (1.78:1), SPECIAL FEATURES: Interactive Menu, Scene Access, SYNOPSIS: Milly (18), and her brother Max (20) are both students. They share a flat in Kilburn with engineering student David Chang (21). Vernon (Ade Edmonson) is Max and Milly's dad. After a messy divorce in which his wife takes everything, Vernon's left broke and homeless - so he moves in with his kids! It's a three bedroom flat and Vernon has to sleep in the cupboard under the stairs (just big enough for a single mattress). At heart Teenage Kicks is a family sitcom, but the normal family structure has been turned upside down: here the young kids can't get rid of their stupidly rebellious father. ...Teenage Kicks - Series 1 ( Teenage Kicks - Series One )

2.0 out of 5 stars Teenage kicks? More like middle-aged comedy., 4 Nov 2008
By
Buzz Fox (London, England) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Teenage Kicks [DVD] [2008] (DVD)
It could have been an hilarious series, but sadly it wasn't. The writing is poor - each joke (to use the term so loosely it hardly applies) can be seen coming long before the punchline is delivered, the problem being that it's either signposted far too obviously or spelled out tediously. Like most British comedies these days - or, more precisely, BBC and ITV comedies: Channel Four seem to do them so much better - we the audience are not given the chance to work out why something is humorous (see also "My Family" and the current failure of fun whose title escapes me but which stars Nicholas Lyndhurst and Celia Imrie) - the actors hamfistedly explain to us by way of throwaway and completely unnecessary lines.
Adrian Edmonson doesn't even look like he's trying to portray a believable character which, given that he wrote the such a predictable script, would be an impossible task anyway - it must have been the easiest fee earned for an acting / writing job ever.
Save your money unless you want to weep tears of disappointment.

Ah, brilliant, anything with Ade in is great, he plays the usual down trodden "Eddie" type character that we all know and love..
