5.0 out of 5 stars Essential reading if you have sons in this age group!, 15 Feb 2001
By A Customer
Do you have a teenage or soon-to-be-teenage son? Have you got a Kevin skulking around moaning about how unfair you are, and how much he HATES you? Being slouchy, unco-operative and downright *difficult*. Yes? Then this book is a must!

Author, Bill Beausay is a psychotherapist who has also long been involved in Sports Psychology. He has been the father of 2 teenage sons and survived to tell the tale. This book is the result of both professional and personal experience and unmissable if you have sons aproaching or in this challenging age-group.

Beausay sets the scene by giving us information on teenagers in general, people's perceptions of them, and their role both at home and in society. He goes on to explain some potential strategies on everything from the all-pervasive problem (and joy?) of communication, to the setting of vital groundrules, and what to do when they're (inevitably!)broken.

"Teenage Boys!" is a brilliant book and very accessible for anyone wanting to improve their relationship with their son. Although remarkably clear and simple, it never falls into the trap of being patronising. The chapters and sub-headers are well laid out and easy to read, and at frequent intervals there are "A Closer Focus" boxes which summarise the vital points in a way you can take in even if you're reading the book in a hurry, or scanning it for a particular subject.

There are lists, useful questions to ask yourself, and an assortment of brilliant ideas. All in all an essential book if you have sons.
