Product Description

Product Description

Named after Theodore (Teddy) Roosevelt, President of the USA, the teddy bear has become everyone's favourite nursery toy since it first appeared in the shops in 1902. Early bears looked as realistic as possible, with long, shaved muzzles, large feet and humped backs, and Albert and Frederick are perfect examples of this. By the sixties and seventies the teddy had developed into a mass-produced soft toy, and Carnaby and Rowan show just how appealing they could be. Today, individual bears are popular once more and the Gibbs complete their collection with a trio of teddy miniatures, each fully jointed. This collection offers a fascinating insight into the changing fashions of teddy bear production in the twentieth century. A 'teddy bear timeline' places each design in its historical context, and the teddy trivia that is scattered throughout is sure to delight all arctophiles. All techniques are explained with detailed step-by-step photographs.

something for everyone 7 April 2011
Format:Hardcover
I had this book before and passed it on( after i had made a couple of bears) and then wishing i hadn,t, so when i spotted it on Amazon for a very reasonable price i immediately ordered it and glad i did, the bears turn out lovely, not always as the pictures as it is according to your own choice of fur, but the shape is there and the instructions and tips are exellent and easy to follow. There is something for everyone in this book, classic or more up to date, the little 1940,s bear i liked in particular.

Great Resource Book 27 Dec 2007
By Melissa Palmer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
Teddy Bear Century is a great general teddy bear resource with bear making basics. I make, and collect, collectible teddy bears and find myself referring back to this great book for different reasons time and again. I love the brief histories on the different teddy bear manufacturers that it contains along with the patterns from each era. It is a high quality book, as well, and will last for years as it has for me.
