With previous console-based Dynasty Warriors games, the player was free to roam about one vast battlefield. One stage could take more than 30 minutes to complete, but stages this long would not be convenient for a mobile gaming environment. So in the PSP version of Dynasty Warriors, each stage is divided into a network of smaller battlefield areas, with each area holding a different degree of strategic importance. These areas influence each other and change according to the battle situation. If the player wins in one area, the victory may create a positive influence in other areas (i.e. increased morale). Or if an allied army retreats, this may decrease allied morale. As a result, the player must be aware of the status of each battlefield area, decide an appropriate battle policy and lead his army to victory.
In previous Dynasty Warriors games, the purpose of a bodyguard was to provide direct support for the player. Dynasty Warriors for PSP is endowing this bodyguard with extra abilities. These officers will fight with the player as bodyguards but possess special skills such as the ability to heal or raise morale. You will start the game with the option to have 4 standard second in commands assisting you, but as you win battles more superior bodyguards come available to you. This new system will also add replay value. Dynasty Warriors for PSP will include rare second in command officers that can be acquired only by meeting specific conditions. Furthermore, players can exchange collected second in command officers via Memory Sticks.
There are two single-player only game modes: Musou mode and Free Mode. In Musou mode, select a character and battle through 5 stages. In Free mode, select a scenario and enjoy the battle.

A brilliant debut on a hand held games console, that stays true to the 'spirit' of the series on the consoles
I love this as is using the music, level designs, main menu screen & characters from DW4 & you can also assign upto 4 officers to the character that you play as, to begin with there's only a choice of six, but that number increases as you complete levels, beat enemy officers etc. A must of any DW fan in my opinion

Happy Slashing!,

Dynasty warriors hasn't been the most sucessful series on the ps2 but koei (the developers) just don't give up and that's a good thing. But the PSP versions simply will blow your mind! The character graphics are amazing but the scenery graphix are not brilliant. The sound is the same as on the ps2 and it has brilliant "uhh" and "eeahhh" sounds. This game is repetitive but it does NOT get boring, ever! This game is brilliant as start off with 15 characters and you have to unlock a further 27 characters, each with their own unique set of attacks and musou attacks. Dynasty warriors is a mega-ultra-amazingingly-addictive-super-hack 'n' slash game which will please all owners of the PSP. Buy it!

I like many others am a big fan of the dynasty warriors games and was slighty dissapointed with the non full version of the game. In this You get your acts yellow turban chi bi etc. but their is these wee "mini stage" thingys which you have to do which annoy me as they last like a min and most of the generals are in diffrent bits which you kind of need to work your way to and sometimes its a hassle to go get a general if he is at the oppisite stage from you.
But if you just like playing it to go about slashing everyone then basically you can still do that and you get officers which are pretty cool and by doing stages you win more. If you have never played the dynasty warriors games then as far as I can think the best way of describeing it would be a tekken type game with swords and maces etc. and you walk about "knocking out" people and move on to the next bit then once you have deafeated the enemy commander you move on to the next stage.
