This review is from: Dynasty Warriors 5 (PS2) (Video Game)
Dynasty Warriors 5 is a brilliant game, it is certainly an improvement on its predecesors. For those who dont know, Dynasty Warriors is a hack and slash game set in 2nd century China. It features huge battles and gripping storylines. In this release of the series the game has changed quite a bit, instead of improving on four, keoi appear to have go back to DW 3 and started working again from there, combining several ideas, such as tactial base capture from DW Empires, a spin off game, and ideas from the Kessen series, a stratagy game running almost in tandem with this series. There are fewer cut scenes in this game, but that does not mean less of a story, each chacracter describes the plot and situation before each battle, revealing their emotions and feelings, and subtley revealing what could be to come. The game also has much larger draw distances and more men on screen, this are noticable improvements, however there is a problem of men appearing out of no where, but this small annoyance is no hinderance to the game. The downsides of this game are the removal of create a warrior, the cut down on cutscnes and finally the soft reset button combination does not seem to work, meaning you must reset your console to play a different campaign. (Dont worry, the game loads a lot faster now!) If you fancy something a little more tactical then I reccomend the Kessen series or Romance of the Three Kingdoms series. If you want some fighting action and/or something more challenging then i reccomend Wars and Warriors Joan of Arc This game is worth the money, buy it now!!

Like many people I love Dynasty Warriors! But this one (5) is something really special, with a huge cast of 48 characters the story is immense as ever, so here are my reasons:GRAPHICS: The best yet in the Dynasty Warriors series, this time more enemies can fit on screen at any time so the battle ground feels so much more alive and the action is faster, character models are excellent on everybody. the troops all still look the same but oh well. SOUND: The usual clanging and banging of metal, but the voicework is very impressive, makes a nice change. GAME PLAY: Stunning. Every character has a unique story (musou) mode to play through making it very long and enjoyable. STORY: The true story o China's 3 kingdoms (shu,Wei and Wu) an amazing adventure through history. OVERALL: If you liked other DW titles, you must buy this game!! if you are just considering it, trust me it is worth every penny, you can even do a co-op mode, plenty to unlock from weapons and costumes to horses and characters. You will enjoy this for years!

Dynasty Warriors 5 can only be discribed as a brilliant game. It is extremly fun and addicitive. However, I must say that if you have played any other Dynasty Warriors game (except one) and you didn't like it, then you won't like this game. It is not that different from the other Dynasty Warriors games in all fairness.
If you are a Dynasty Warriors fan then you will probably love this game. in my opinion it is without a doubt the best in the series. It is really like four except without all the bad features, and some brilliant new ones. Some new brillaint features are: Every character has their own storyline (this is in some aspects a improvment on 3 but 3 didn't really have this feature covered that well) Their is thousands more movies (in game play as well) New characters Find your own weapons (like in 3) The storyline feature is, in my opinion, the best. As in 3 every character has their own storyline. However, in three the characters were still in many battles that they wern't meant to be in, this time, if this is the case, then there is a logical reason as to why. If you have never played Dynasty Warriors you really should, I reccommend strongly that you buy this game. The storyline and gameplay are both brilliant.
