The Problem - How to get 'my' music playing in my car with no bluetooth or aux in connector.

Options -
Burn lots of audio CDs (From my purchased library of course) limited to 60 mins per CD and a 6 CD multichanger
- Time and space consuming, burning a new CD each time my music taste adapts to include the latest tunes
Purchase a new head unit
- Not viable when your car is an Aston Martin
Purchase an FM transmitter
- Viable, so product selection started

There are so many of these on the market so which one do I select. My criteria was simple it had to fit both my iphone and Samsung Galaxy, it had to be wireless and it had to work.

I looked at almost every item currently in stock on Amazon, some looked great, incorporating Bluetooth to the phone for handling calls (Nice function) most of these items needed to be plugged into the 12V aux and had an interface on a stem. This didn't meet my criteria as my aux connector is in my center console next to the gear stick so anything plugged in the 12V aux would be in the way.

This Tecknet solution caught my eye; its small, very easy to use, operates on battery and / or charges via 12V / USB.
Push and hold the left << to switch the unit on, the back light illuminates and shows the frequency on which it is transmitting.
Before tuning the device switch on the car radio and manually tune the radio to a frequency that is presenting white noise only, any bordering radio stations breaking through will impact the quality of your music. Don't forget this might not be a set once and forget ... while you drive the car you will move in and out of other station broadcasts so a frequency which might be great at home is different half way into your trip.

Previously took a chance on Tecknets iPod FM transmitter after looking through the available options, reviews and costs (some being over £50!) and was amazed at how well it performed. That stayed with me for the best part of 3-4 years until it was stolen (along with my iPod) and performed brilliantly in that time.

Decided against another iPod, instead using my phone as a music device (32gb of storage in a phone was unheard of in 2010!) as soon as I saw tecknet did a standard 3.5mm jack version.

Works just as well as the ipod version, only difference being it can't draw its power from the device so needs charging but at least it doesn't have to be plugged into the cigarette lighter to work as some other manufacturers products do.

Sound is clear and strong, transmits a good full range of frequency so you get bass and mid-high clarity and at just £10 delivered is an amazing bargain!

Some people have issues with interference, for me it is only very occasionally and is no where near enough to put me off. Mine gets used on a 45 minute commute twice a day that goes through built up areas, farm land and the M1 and works like a charm.

The secret is find a frequency that fits, as the manual states, find a space which has three clear frequencies e.g. 90.0-90.2 and set in to the middle frequency (90.1), which in the like of london might be troublesome but for most i'm sure will be no issue.

Good quality and great value considering it comes with a charger too, arrived on time, only downside is that during long journeys you have to change the frequency quite often because of interference from radio stations in different areas.

I have had some experience with other iPod/iPhone transmitters and have found this product to works the best. This item was bought as a gift for friends who have an issue with their CD unit on their old home hi-fi unit. Now they play their music through the tuner with greater ease than before.

Whilst testing the unit, during extensive travelling, there is inevitably a need to re-tuning to avoid stronger signals from stations masking the transmitter's signal. With a passenger this is not a particular issue but driving on your own it can be, for obvious reasons of safety.

Fitting the transmitter into the iPod/iPhone socket is very precise and is not always satisfactorily achieved with a cover in place. The shank of the plug could be designed somewhat longer to accomodate this issue.

I am apprehensive of the potential strain on the socket & plug whilst connected to the power cable if moved around together over many occasions. Perhaps if the product included a dashboard tray, this might help to avoid this issue. Having said that the price is afforable enough to replace.

The package includes a versatile (sensible) combination of a standard USB car charger plug and USB cable, as individual items, which can be easily replaced if lost.

A fair valued product that is complete and works as expected - I hope you find the same experience.

Great product. As I am a minibus driver this is great for my I-pod, lets me pass it around for customers to select their own music.

This transmitter design is almost a wide as an iPhone and is not suitable for use with one when in a case, as the sync cable connector only just makes contact with the pins in the base of the iPhone and looses communication at the first small bump in the road. No connection problem with an 2nd or 3rd generation Nano, with no case to restrict the connection plug. Quite good bass response via the radio tuner, but significant sibilance noted on most tracks in the treble spectrum, although the unit performed quite well on audiobooks, etc. The charging cable was rather short, which is not likely to be a problem for many vehicles, but the cable itself is too stiff and would make the transmitter easier to use if it were made of a more flexible material. Overall, reasonable for the price, but far from perfect.
