It's a little radio transmitter which takes its power from your iPod or iPhone (I'm using it with my iPhone 3G and iPod 5G). Bonus is there's a (shortish) USB cable and plug for your cigar lighter socket (I have an oldish car), so that you don't have to drain your player battery. Plugging it in doesn't seem to help the signal strength.

So you set its transmission frequency and tune in your radio (I had to turn off the auto frequency control). You then get a reasonable signal, especially if you have followed the recommendation to set the frequency to somewhere there's static. Obviously if you're travelling a distance, you may need to reset the frequency (since what was static in Stoke may be noisy in Nottingham) or suffer deterioration or loss of your puny signal.

I get a reasonable reception with the iPod/transmitter on the dashboard (using one of those anti-slip mats which I've reviewed elsewhere) and my aerial in the rear screen (it seems to be integrated with the heated rear window elements). It might be better if I put it on the back shelf, I suppose: I've not tried it.

It is significantly poorer than an aux input, but gives acceptable quality.

So: a good buy, better that a big-name product I tried at three times the price. Just don't expect miracles.

I love this little transmitter it fits the bottom of the ipod touch exaclty I even use a rubber protector and it stll fits flush and makes a good connection unlike some other brands. It looks really stylish too but not only does it look good. It DOES actually work I live in the midlands and finding a station to tune to can be hard but this little transmitter once tuned hasn't crackled hissed nothing just tuned in and that was that. It holds the station great and doesn't even drain the battery like some I've bought before. I've had it for about 2mths now and haven't found fault with it yet. The price was really good too I've paid a lot more for other products won't do it again though will come back to this one when it needs replacing like I say love it

For months now I've SUFFERED with a Belkin transmitter which plugs into the jack input on my ipod - not any more. Not only do you get better sound quality (better signal) it is also MUCH easier to use, and comes with the lead you can plug into your car which DOES charge your ipod. And for the price its an exceptional bit of kit. a MUST buy for anyone who uses their ipod in the car. A*

The Problem - How to get 'my' music playing in my car with no bluetooth or aux in connector.

Options -
Burn lots of audio CDs (From my purchased library of course) limited to 60 mins per CD and a 6 CD multichanger
- Time and space consuming, burning a new CD each time my music taste adapts to include the latest tunes
Purchase a new head unit
- Not viable when your car is an Aston Martin
Purchase an FM transmitter
- Viable, so product selection started

There are so many of these on the market so which one do I select. My criteria was simple it had to fit both my iphone and Samsung Galaxy, it had to be wireless and it had to work.

I looked at almost every item currently in stock on Amazon, some looked great, incorporating Bluetooth to the phone for handling calls (Nice function) most of these items needed to be plugged into the 12V aux and had an interface on a stem. This didn't meet my criteria as my aux connector is in my center console next to the gear stick so anything plugged in the 12V aux would be in the way.

This Tecknet solution caught my eye; its small, very easy to use, operates on battery and / or charges via 12V / USB.
Push and hold the left << to switch the unit on, the back light illuminates and shows the frequency on which it is transmitting.
Before tuning the device switch on the car radio and manually tune the radio to a frequency that is presenting white noise only, any bordering radio stations breaking through will impact the quality of your music. Don't forget this might not be a set once and forget ... while you drive the car you will move in and out of other station broadcasts so a frequency which might be great at home is different half way into your trip.

Amazing piece of kit for the money, it's very simple to use.

You just plug it into your 12V socket in your car (cigarette lighter), when you start the car the unit will turn on giving you an FM frequency which you can change up and down using the '+' and '-' buttons next to the display.
Once you've set it to an empty frequency (check by tuning your stereo to a FM frequency that just creates static noise), tune your stereo to the same frequency and then plug in your phone, MP3 player or other device which has a AUX/Headphone port.
When you play the music or answer a phone call all the audio will come through the Stereo instead of the unit. Keep in mind that if using this to answer calls you will need to use your phone to answer + end calls and to talk into so make sure it's in a position close to you like a mount.

Audio quality on both phone call and music were fine, I also had no problems with other radio stations interfering with my signal.

I kept the radio station saved on my stereo so playing music when I got into my car took a matter of seconds, although I recommend turning your stereo off before turning off your ignition otherwise you get a horrible hissing noise for a second as the FM Transmitter has turned off but the Stereo is still powering down. This might not happen with other cars, but it did in mine because the stereo was very basic.

This device worked as a great bridge device until I was able to afford a new stereo for my car. It actually made me think twice about buying a new stereo as this does the job just fine. I will probably be passing this onto my girlfriend when she gets her car and I doubt I will need to teach her how to use it because it's just that simple!
