Note that there is no transformer with this battery, just a USB cord with a propriatory plug that goes into the battery, so you must either charge from a computer or use your iPhone or iPod transformer if you want to charge from the wall.
The case fits very snuggly around the iPhone 3Gs and does a very credible job of protecting the phone. The upper body of the case is just plastic, so there is no noticable reduction in phone transmission or reception.
There is one minor issue to be aware of. If the battery charge gets low, the iPhone will start giving a pop-up warning that "Charging is not supported from this device." At that point if you don't want to see that warning about once per minute, move the switch on the bottom of the battery pack to "Off".
