I bought this as a slightly cheaper alternative to the Anker 4 port UDB 3.0 hub, and I'm afraid I've made a grave error in selecting this unit for the sake of a few pounds saving. Out of the box this appears to be a reasonable buy. However, all 4 female USB sockets are terrible! I have to tilt the male USB socket slightly to engage it correctly, and even then it requires an unnatural amount of force to insert it. When doing so, you hear a disconcerting metal scraping sound. (Yes, the male USB end is in the correct orientation - I've worked as a computer tech. for 15 years, so I'm pretty clued up on such things.)

If it wasn't for the fact that I will have very little need to swap USB cables often (as I use this setup as a docking station of sorts) I would return the item immediately.

I note also that the product image has changed slightly since I placed my order, so I assume that this has superseded a previous model.

2.0 out of 5 stars USB 3 devices don't always work 8 Jun 2014
By Mark

This hub is great value for money and perfect for travelling with, but I can't use it with USB 3 devices. If I plug in a USB2 disk it works perfectly, but if I plug in a USB 3 disk or SSD it mounts but then when you transfer data it drops off.

2.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't work with external hard drives for macs 28 May 2014
By rob101

I had a brand new imac and brand new external 4Tb drive formatted to ex-FAT that i was using to copy over stuff from my old machine to new. When i tried to copy anything from my external drive using the USB hub it would cause Finder to lock completely which meant i had to force shutdown my mac. The external drive plugged directly into the USB port on my imac has worked flawlessly for a few days now.

I have not had a problem with the USB sticks, mice or keyboards that i have used with it, that is the only reason it is not getting 1 star. It looks nice and seems well made.

Just purchased and returning. Only sees usb 2 drives. Did not see USB 3 flash or hard drive. Don't blame the seller but unhappy. Will buy expensive Anker version which I have and works well.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not what I was hoping for ... 20 May 2014
Verified Purchase
Firstly, the good points ...
The hub arrived in great, sturdy cardboard packaging, and achieves good speed when compared to using the same flash drives in a USB 2.0 port, as long as the files being transferred are small enough to move quickly.
The current price of £10 is not only more honest than £9.99, but the penny difference is great for non-Prime customers needing to meet the current £10 minimum spend for free postage!

Now for the less than good stuff ...
It is quite difficult to physically dis/connect USB plugs into the ports on the hub - it is a very tight fit, and it feels like either the plugs or the ports will soon give way in the connection struggle.
The main reason I bought this USB 3.0 hub, was because all the USB ports on the front of my PC are currently still USB 2.0, while the rear ports are mostly USB 3.0. The back of my PC is a pain to get to, so I bought a hub that supposedly had a cable long enough to reach from the rear USB 3.0 port, to the front of my PC case, but 5cm of the stated length of this cable is lost to the rigid plug pointing in the wrong direction (plus the cable then passing back along this wasted 5 cm, so the total 'loss' in length is closer to 10cm). It is still easier to reach this hub than the back of the PC, so there is some improvement in accessibility. It is possible that an L-shaped connector instead of the rigid straight connector, could improve the design of the product, although not in all circumstances.
I also bought this hub, to enable the use of more than one flash drive at the same time, at USB 3.0 speeds.

5.0 out of 5 stars USB 3.0 Hub 16 Aug 2013
By Daniel
Verified Purchase
Been looking for a USB 3.0 Hub for a while in computer shops, electronic shops but had no luck. I decided to look on Amazon and I came across this USB 3.0 Hub at a excellent price so i bought it. I have many USB devices which require USB 3.0 to run and only had 2 on my Desktop. As a consumer I am very happy with this product. Highly recommend this product "VERY EASY" to use, plugin and play device.
