Product Description

The professional standard BL-700 battery charger has four independent charging channels each of which allow for independent charging, discharging, refreshing or testing of any AA or AAA rechargeable battery, both NiCd and NiMH.

Perfect for charging odd numbers of batteries (1,2,3 or 4)

Each battery slot has its own LCD which provides real time information relating to the status of every battery individually. You can view actual charge/discharge current, terminal voltage, accumulated mAh and elapsed time per cell.

You can perform different functions on each battery simultaneously. You can set the charge current at different levels for each of the four batteries and you can also charge different sizes (AA or AAA) at the same time.

Select the charge current of your choice for a gentle or fast charge at either 200mA, 500mA, 700mA.

The Refresh Mode does a very good job of reviving tired, neglected or abused batteries by automatically charging and discharging the batteries until optimum performance is achieved.

This charger is also perfect for matching batteries into similarly performing sets and does an excellent job of identifying failing cells within a set.

Suitable for charging any NiMH or NiCd rechargeable AA/AAA battery with capacity up to 3000mAh.

UK version, UK power supply. Batteries shown are not included.

The Technoline BL-700 has to be one of the more capable `intelligent' chargers out there, offering several different charging options - charge, discharge, refresh and test. It holds up to 4 AA or AAA, NiMH and Ni-Cad batteries, the beauty of it being that you can mix and match as you please as each of the charging slots is independent of the others. This means that the charger monitors each slot individually, so that each battery gets the type of charge you select and the duration of charge that it needs.

In terms of its charging functions, the charge setting, as the name suggests, simply charges the batteries, while the discharge setting completely discharges the batteries before charging them, so prolonging their lifespan. The refresh function puts the batteries through 20 full charge/discharge cycles to bring them back to full health, and the test setting charges then discharges them to give a reading on how healthy they are. I've used all but the test setting and can say with certainty that each has its place - the refresh function in particular has been excellent at bringing up batteries I thought were dead.

You can also select the charging current which will vary the charging time but may affect the battery health - it is often said that a slow charge, while taking longer, is better for your batteries. I use mine on the middle setting, which seems to give the best compromise between speed and safety.

In a `dumb' battery charger, the unit charges batteries for a set time, so overcharging is a constant possibility.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superlative Charger for AA & AAA batteries 8 Jun 2011
By DaveO
Before deciding to buy this charger I read the existing reviews and was slightly put off by a number of references to the `8 second' business that seems integral to the functionality of this charger unit. Having bought one of these and lived with it for a while I can see its actually is very clever thinking on the designers part. I can assure anybody that this is one very clever charger and well worth the money, but to get the best out of it, you must invest some time getting your head around the functionality of the charger and rechargeable battery technology (sorry but its true)!

It only charges two battery sizes AA and AAA, but the clever bit is you can charge them in any number or mixture of the two types and even varying capacities within the same type. It as four modes of operation `charge', `discharge', `test' and `refresh'. Even better is that each one of the four batteries can be operating in a different mode. When a single battery is fully charged you can pop-it-out (use a small screwdriver) without unplugging the unit, and pop in another battery and set it up in one of the modes without disturbing the charging mode of the other batteries. That's where the 8secs comes into play. If you mess up no problems just select the battery and reset the mode. The default mode is just to charge at the lowest rate of 200ma.

I did find it the unit seemed to run a little warmish but setting it up on a wire tray solved the problem. I can see that the `refresh' mode could take several days and one must think initially where in the house to plug the unit in so it's not accidentally unplugged by some other family-member! Don't forget when refreshing a single battery the other compartments are available for more normal charging.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good solid battery charger... 27 Oct 2010
By StuN
Not the easiest gadget to use, I found myself trying to do one thing and doing something else, but that's probably down to me not concentrating. Also a full discharge refresh cycle can take a long time, so plan a couple of days in advance, but the results will be worth it.

On the plus side it does look like it managed to revive a couple of supposedly dead batteries, although I do have one that is even beyond the capabilities of this charger to revive.

I'm hoping this will extend the life of the new and good cells I use, and allow me to use the not so good batteries in low use applications and childrens toys.

Verified Purchase
A bit of background information about the supplier.
When I decided to purchase this charger on the Amazon website, it indicated that this item was out of stock. So I emailed BatteryLogic to ask when this product might be available, thinking that perhaps my correspondences might fall into a black hole and receive no answer. Not so, within a few hours the company replied that it would be made available the next week. When it was available it was dispatched on the very day it was ordered.
All the customer reviews of this product are informative and sing the praises of the product, quite rightly so.
So I thought that you might be interested in what I have found using this unit for the very first time.
Firstly the product dimensions are 75mm long x 130mm high x 40mm wide, it is very well made and held together with screws not integral plastic moulded clips, also the instruction manual is informative and written in good English and German.
Using four fully charged AA 2300 mAh batteries I set the Discharge / Charge Cycle with the standard charging rate at 200 mA.
It was like waiting for paint to dry.
Thirteen hours later I had a result.
It was worth waiting for, as the read out for each battery was very informative.
Also the rating was given as 2540mAh, (2300mAh on the battery).
A word of warning there is a Refresh Mode, apparently this is for old tired batteries, this discharges and then charges the battery many times, as one discharge / charge cycle took thirteen hours, then you can only guess how long this would take.
So to sum up, if you want to charge your batteries in a short time frame then this unit is not for you.
With this unit you have total confidence in your batteries being charged correctly.
