My eardrums hurt 27 July 2005
By Legion
This is a quality system. Enough said. No seriously this is a great system, the sound is amazing, believe me you will not be able to turn this up full volume without doing some serious damage to your hearing. The vast array of buttons on the system and remote may look confusing but they are fairly easy to work out.

There are various options for the sound to be spread around the room via satellite speakers and you are able to play around on the system with the depth of the sound i.e. flat/heavy/clear etc. There is a clock/timer/record function, 39 preset stations (I would tune them in manually - trust me) and of course dvd/cd playback capability. Also plays mp3/WMA files and you can view JPEG images on your cd's individually or via a slideshow format. Oh and of course the system looks great (looks are important).

So why only four out of five? Well even though there are 5 cd/dvd trays there is no continuation after the first disc has stopped, you have to press the button to start the next one. Bit of a bummer if you are lazy. Also if I want to be picky when you turn the system off the clock does not stay on it disappears and goes into standby, but maybe I have not read the instructions properly :). Also one last sticking point is when you are listening to the radio and wish to change the station you have to press the station number, there is no option on the remote to go up or down to the next set station.

But apart from that the dvd's and cd's play fine, easy to set up and there are enough options on the dvd side of things to keep people happy and like I said, and most importantly, the sound is incredible!

Fantastic System 21 Oct 2007
By Lorrie
i was reading the 1st reviewer saying it doesn't have a continuation, it does as you can put it on ALL DISC in the play mode options.

i really cannot fault this machine its absolutely brilliant, apart from that you have to tune in the radio channels from the machine and not via remote, also the Australian version has the karaoke machine built in which is a shame really.

i have read reviews on other sites, about the dvd function, you have to remember that your tv are all different and depends on how much colour you like to view on the screen i know someone in my family loves to have alot of strong colour in her tv and it absolutely ruins my eyes.

But you also got to put into consideration about your machine settings and also how the DVD itself was produced. If you look at the vast array of tv's on display in the shops you can see the vast differences of the quality of pictures of each tv.

Also it is 360 watts and not 100 watts as it says on the amazon description.

Technics SCDV290 9 Jan 2007
My review is nothing but good for this item...it does so much...features are really good...sound is clear and the bass shakes my doors / floor boards and rattles the windows on barely 1/4th of the total volume.

-ve points:

1) They just had to miss out the feature to play divxs!

2) It could have done with atleast 'one' more external sound input as at the moment it only has 2.

Other than these -ve 2 points I don't see it lacking in anything else.
