Thought this would be an excellent book for students just learning Illustrator to pick up templates and develop the CD being a huge plus. This however this is disappointing as only the very basic shapes are included on the CD and none of the time consuming tricky bits such as developing brushes for stitch lines, gathers pleats etc aren't included. I'm experienced in Illustrator and I thought this would be a fabulous route for A level students to get started in Illustrator and it isn't.

This is a great book. It is very informative in showing how technical drawings should be done plus it even includes a handy cd that contains the basic technical drawings that you can adapt on Adobe. Good buy!

This book is excellent - gives very comprehensive yet clear instructions how to draw flats accurately and to industry standard using both the traditional method of drawing one half of the garment and tracing it through etc and using a similar process in Adobe Illustrator. Using this approach, your drawings should be that much more accurate and professional looking - helpful for gaining credibility and preventing misunderstandings when dealing with overseas factories (for garment production. Includes examples of main types of garments - useful reference to use as a starting point to develop own designs. Highly recommended.

I bought this book primarily to learn the basics of illustrator technical flat production, when infact its just a book of technical flats but does not show you how to make them - albeit a very very very basic overview - it skips so many important aspects, infact anyone buying this book to learn illustrator look away now and buy the Kevin Tallon book of creative design with illustrator - this book is merely a compilation of already made up specs and im pretty certain that once you can use illustrator you can build your own from scratch.

I wasn't t overly impressed with the book, as another review has mentioned the CD of flat drawing outlines is rather in complete, the sides of the drawings are not joined in the centre which is a bit frustrating, it wouldn't have taken a great amount of time to join them and makes it trickier to make adjustments to the template, and the templates in themselves aren't great so I found the C.D (the reason I purchased the book) useless. I doesn't take long to draw outlines of garment in illustrator from scratch once you get the hang of the pen tool and i think it would be easier than messing around with the files on the CD. the template examples in the book and on the CD are also very basic and boxy and not really the kind of garments a modern and creative designer or student would want to design. I think this would be useful for a beginner to look over for examples of technical drawing but all in all I don't think the book is worth the money.

I'm studying fashion so bought this book to help me with my flat and technical drawings. I haven't actually used it but have had a look through and it seems really helpful. There are lots of pictures and examples of right and wrong ways to do things which really helps. I can't wait to use it.

As a fashion student at university this book is extremely helpful, a lot of varying designs that can be adopted, as an added bonus there is a CD ROM meaning you can use the flats as a starting point on Illustrator
