At last - somebody has re issued T&D with single B sides, versions etc that we haven't been able to hear on CD.

Some of my favourite Kim tracks are B sides and the 12" version of Lovers On A Beach sounds superb. Such a shame some are Vinyl copies - you can still hear the crackles.

Highlights for this brilliant 2CD set

Lovers On A Beach - BOTH VERSIONS
Turn It On - Before very hard to find
Putty In Your Hands

I think the biggest down fall for these reissues is the darkness of the covers - the same as the Kim Wilde reissues, the colour on this cover is way too dark - sort it out Cherry Pop, you are spoiling these re issues

Well The Bardot Of Rock had left Mickie Most's RAK stable & MCA had signed Ms Kimbo of Wilde,& here she is with her first offering which is a true eighties classic .
What an exciting time mid Eighties & you have Kimmy singing what is probably one of the most erotic lyrics ever with the first single "The Second Time" as she huskily sings "I've every reason to believe there's still a man in you............"& set to a killer baseline, she could'nt go wrong. This album really has stood the test of time even the second single "The Touch" as it clinks along in true eighties style. However the true highlights are " Janine" which could have been the most fabulous song for a soundtrack, however the real hidden gem is the ultra sultry "Turn it On" which was included in the dodgy soundtrack "Weird Science",this really is one of the most overlooked & underated songs ever it is mindblowing!(This double release is a bargain as it includes all previously unreleased rarities & mixes never released on CD until now)

However I've saved the best to last buy this just to hear "Suburbs of Moscow" ,Marty Wilde apparently wrote this after being to the said same capital, listen to Kim & she will literally take you there,it is so atmospheric & sang with the unmistakable tones of my if you didn't realise favourite singer of all time. Buy this album & you will then only realise what you have been missing...........fantastic!

Surprisingly, this newly remastered edition of Teases & Dares doesn't sound too good in comparison to the original version. Yes, the sound is cleaner in parts, but, in my opinion, it's not to the album's benefit. The new track mixes, which are mastered at a much higher volume, appear to have been opened up too much in the mastering process, giving an overall thinner, and sometimes tinnier, sound. Also, some of the drums and percussion sound distant and separate to the rest of the music.

Kim's vocals seem to be more prominent throughout, but I think the songs sounded better when she was further down in the mix, rather than to the fore. Another bad side-effect of the remastering on this album is the higher level of vocal sibilance in Kim's delivery; it sounds awful on some of the songs (see "Lovers on a Beach" and the seven inch version of "The Touch", especially).

If you've already bought this 2-CD set, and you also own an earlier edition of the album, open up some audio editing software on your computer, import a track from both albums, and you'll be able to see in the waveforms the HUGE amount of amplification/gain that's been added to the tracks on this remastered edition. It results in a poorer quality of sound overall, and, for the most part, is unnecessary - if I want to listen to the album a bit louder, I can just use the volume control on my hi-fi.

It's also apparent that a number of the bonus tracks have been transferred from vinyl rather than the original master tapes, as evidenced in the various hissing, squeaks, and crackles that are clearly audible - the main offenders being the special re-mix of "Shangri-La" and the dub and extended dance versions of "Go For It" on disc two.

Very pleasant easy listening pop music from someone whose voice is easy on the ear. Kim Wilde temporarily adopted an image which was sexy and sassy but nothing like herself and which she quickly dropped. There is more use of electronics on this album than others I have heard from her, mainly atmosphere, and there are some strong songs and some unexpected moments.

My favourite tracks are "The Touch", "Rage to Love", "Bladerunner" and "Thought it was goodbye". My copy is extended with a second disk of alternate mixes, 12 inch mixes and tracks not on the original vinyl. If you like her this collection is well worth exploring for it's wide range of pop and more thoughtful tracks.

I have this both as the original Cd release and this excellent re-release. Teases & Dares is my go to Kim Wilde album along with her debut album, Teases has always stuck me as being slightly more experimental & darker than her usual pop fare, from her image change on the cover (I seem to remember she got some real flack for that in the music press at the time)to the bleak lyrics and more industrial sounding electronic music(by her standards!).

As with all Kim wilde albums there are also some great pop songs such as Rage to Love and The Second Time and the much overlooked The Touch.

Enjoy a very pleasant nostalgia trip!
