5.0 out of 5 stars Will turn your tears to "gold" too! 31 May 2013
By Janet - Published on Amazon.com
Having just finished reading "Tears Turned to Gold", I can tell you that I had tears, not of sorrow, but from reading about amazing courage, depth of love and strengthening of faith. Thankfully, I have never battled with chronic illness, and honestly felt I couldn't relate to or understand those who do. Now I understand so much more. This book took me on a touching, real-life journey into the side of life most of us would prefer to avoid facing, but often cannot. It is an experience I would recommend, to give you more compassion, and a more profound insight into what so many around us suffer on a day-to-day basis. And if you or a loved one has suffered with long-term, debilitating disability or affliction, this is a must-read. It expresses the author's innermost thoughts- the emotions and choices, ups and downs. It helps you comprehend the depths of what one may not be able to express themselves. With a truly happy ending, and life lessons throughout!

5.0 out of 5 stars Faith healing or healing faith 29 Jun. 2013
By L. Hwang - Published on Amazon.com
Many people with chronic illness are looking for miraculous cure and their wishful hopes are disappointed repeatedly. This book is about true faith. After reading "Tears Turned to Gold" by Marie Morrow, I no longer pray my insomnia go away, but the long dark lonely hours turn to precious sweet moments being with Jesus. After reading more articles at mariesreflections.com, I bought 12 copies to circulate among my friends with chronic illness.

5.0 out of 5 stars Captivating and Encouraging 20 Aug. 2014

I don't usually enjoy non-fiction, but this book was recommended to me so I ordered it and found it fascinating. The author describes many health obstacles she and her husband have faced, and are still facing, and it should be a depressing story, but somehow Ms. Morrow makes it a celebration of life and hope. This long-time missionary recounts how, in her lowest moments, her faith in Jesus Christ carried her through. The book is interspersed with some lovely original poems, including one by written by her young daughter, and Ms. Morrow uses scriptures in every chapter, not in a preachy way, but in a conversational way that helps the readers apply the verses to their own lives.

I have a few issues, but nothing that detracts from the book, and I only mention them FYI. One is the author's inexplicable use of a four-letter word in the middle of the book, just for the sake of being clever. She does insert an asterisk so as not to write out the whole word, but it seems out of place in a book that is otherwise completely wholesome. Also, some of her spiritual experiences seem farfetched, but who am I to question how God speaks to one of His children so desperately in need of comfort? As long as the reader understands that the words and visions given to Ms. Morrow were for her benefit and are not to be equated with the Word of God, it's wonderful to read about the creative and personal ways God showed His love to her.

My only other disappointment is that I wish the author had included more details about herself and her family. There are very few glimpses into their personal lives, so we don't get to know them well as real people. I'm sure she is protecting the family's privacy, but I would have liked getting to know them better, to better understand how they developed such an unshakeable faith.

All in all, this is a book worth reading if you or someone you love is going through a time of crisis. She mentioned another book that might be coming soon about coping with an illness, and I am looking forward reading it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspired 3 April 2014
By Lori cj - Published on Amazon.com
I came across this book a few weeks ago and count it as a blessing. The authors descriptions of places, people and human spirit pulls you into her story and the lives of her family. You are there, beside them as they struggle and celebrate the challenges placed before them. The grace and journey of her family and friends is humbling and gently beautiful. This is a story of faith and survival that will stay with you, that will inspire you to be a stronger spouse, parent, friend and Christian. This is a book you will want to share. . .
