Dreams bring passion, passion births lust, lust feeds violence. Violence brings chaos. Chaos stands against The Order.

What if the truth is locked inside your dreams?

For years Officer Elite Daniel Barrows has fought for his place in The Order, overcoming the bigotry of being born a tribal. His adoptive father rescued him during a devastating raid, but Daniel cannot forget his childhood and the beautiful, enchanting friend who long ago lost her life.

Now in charge of tribal raids for The Order, Daniel’s success is jeopardized when he comes face to face with a mysterious woman. Nya turns his structured world upside down. His draw to her defies all logic, all reason, and goes against everything he was raised to believe.

With Nya’s life in danger, Daniel must choose between duty and what he feels to be right. With that choice, he will discover who he is and find his destiny.

4.0 out of 5 stars A great futuristic romance 29 Sep 2007
By Book Addict TOP 500 REVIEWER
In the year 2307 the comet Myhu passed Earth and within days the population of the planet rapidly diminished; killed by the great storms of acid rain falling in the comet's wake. Although many died, a few found themselves blessed by this rain; discovering themselves able to wield powers of the mind. Known as the Children of Myhu, these and other none gifted members of their society known as the Awakened thrived alongside the Order; a central ruling government established to rebuild society. Unfortunately the regime altered for the worst under the rulership of a new leader. Emperor Pienu began to use the Order for his own purposes, intent that every person adheres to the role assigned to them; living only to perform their designated function. Protesting this future, the Awakened were gathered into camps across North America. Segregated from members of the Order and continuing with a freer existence, these two societies successfully stayed away from each other until an Awakened betrayed his own kind. Learning that they disregarded his rules enraged the Emperor and in retaliation he sent the army of the Order to the Awakened camps; commanding them to leave none alive.

A decade later Daniel Barrows is still haunted by dreams of his tribal life; snatched away when the Order slaughtered his entire camp. Adopted by General Barrows, his loyalty to the Order is obvious to all; however he still dreams of his childhood friend Emi'le, a young girl sacrificed by their tribal elder in the hopes of overcoming the Order. Yet despite his medication and devotion to duty Daniel is unable to stop himself assisting in the escape of a wanted felon; an Awakened bearing the same tribal marking he himself has.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dystopian romance 6 Sep 2011
By voracious reader - Published on
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This was not a long book, but I enjoyed the characters, action and romance. This is set in a post apocolyptic dystopian world where The Order tries to control the population through drugs and other means. The order doesn't want people to feel passion or feelings, but to have an orderly life, free of the distraction of emotion. In this book, we find a small population eaking out a living as they rebel against the Order. Enjoy the story as Daniel discovers the truth about his life and makes choices that changes not only his path but leads him to love. I don't want to tell too much, but hopefully you are interested enough to give it a chance. I'm surprised more people haven't discovered this little gem.

5.0 out of 5 stars 5 Hearts from TRS! 27 Oct 2009

"Claire Michaels crafts a superb love story. Hitler and his minions were no worse than the Emperor Pienu, leader of The Order and those he commands. Daniel/Da'yel is well built as a man struggling to do the right thing against almost insurmountable odds after he's subjected to the brainwashing of The Order. Even with years of drugs to help them control him his heart just isn't ever one hundred percent into the evil they ask of him."

"As Da'yel gets the drugs out of his system the storyline excels even more. When Nya turns out to be his Emi'le Da'yel's memory comes back even more. As he slowly remembers more of the day his life changed we get a different view of many of the characters. We start finding out the secrets being kept by so many of the characters. Some of them are good, some are vicious and makes the demise of the bad guys even more justifiable."

"From beginning through the heart wrenching Epilogue Ms. Michaels has woven a great story." - Dee Dailey

This was one of those books I wished were longer, I couldn't get enough! Daniel & Nya's world is richly terrifying.

Miss Michaels has continued to release new books under the pseudonym, R.K. Priddy, and I highly recommend you check out Opus (By The Gods), the first book in her new By the God's series.
