Product Description

Dr. David Warner descends in a hospital elevator, and is transported in time to the Civil War, 1862.

In order to survive, he must gain the trust of Dr. Jebadiah Morgan, an old Civil War surgeon, who is as skeptical of David as he is intrigued. Demonstrating advanced surgical skills in difficult primitive conditions, he wins Dr. Morgan’s confidence and they soon become close friends.

David’s experience with such a brutal war is shocking and fearful. While in a desperate search to return home, David is thrust into the infamous Battle of Antietam. Overrun and greatly outnumbered, David reluctantly assumes command of his battalion and turns the tide of their capture.

Having narrowly avoided death at Antietam, David is forced into command once more: the Battle of Gettysburg. Alongside General George Armstrong Custer, the two develop and execute an ingenious plan to change the outcome of the battle and ultimately, the war.

As David nears the end of his journey, he is gravely wounded. With time running out, his survival depends on the future.

More About the Author

Christopher David Petersen (1963 - 20??). Born and raised in Connecticut, USA. As a child, I was always daring and reckless. Never one to let common sense stand in the way of a great adventure, my bold feats of stupidity were legendary... Huckleberry Finn would have been proud.

"Surprisingly", that same spirit carried over into adulthood, as I sought out entertainment that included: scuba diving; ski Mountaineering; mountain biking; Rock, Ice and Mountain climbing; flying planes; golf, motorcycles, the stock market and of course, experimentation with various alcoholic refreshments.

Later in life, writing became an extension of my deep desire to experience "new and exciting worlds". I have written several books, but none have been published through any formal channels... I've heard the process is long, painful and laborious, the thought of which sickens me. My foray into e-publishing came after a friend suggested my works could fetch dollars instead of dust inside my sock drawer... a righteous observation. My recent publications are the result of this advice. Further adventure/suspense novels are soon to be released.

An engineer by trade, I have worked all over the U.S. and usually write in my spare time... that is when I'm not enjoying a bottle of Scotch and a quality cigar. I am a naturally long-winded individual, so writing is what happens when I can't get anyone to listen to me anymore...

I love all kinds of genres but gravitate more towards suspense. There is nothing like the build up to a great climax... What a rush!

5.0 out of 5 stars Disquietingly believable 23 Nov 2011

The thorough research done for this novel shines through every chapter. The time travel aspect is handled in a deft fashion that requires only a small amount of suspension of belief. The prose is clean, the dialogue flawless. I'm very pleased that this author has other published works available and I look forward to enjoying them as well. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars A classic time travel story. 17 July 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I downloaded Tear in Time as a sample and it sat on my Kindle for some time, until I read it. The problem with this book is that once you start reading it, you can't stop as it has a really good momentum that drives the story forward.

The basis of the story, of a surgeon accidentally being propelled backwards in time to the American Civil War may seem a poor choice, but in fact is perfect for the story. It is apparent that the writer either has prior experience of surgical techniques and the period, or has done extensive research.

Throughout the book you are treated to great descriptions of the events of the time. I have found, with many books, not just those that are published on the Kindle, that the authors 'great idea' is so engrossing that they forget to describe the situations from the protagonists viewpoint. This is not the case with Tear in Time, you feel that you are deeply interested in how David Warner and Jebediah Morgan are affected by the bloodiest conflict that the American People have ever been involved in.

All in all then, a terrific read that I cannot recommend highly enough.

I really enjoyed this book and although don't usually read medical or war stories this book bridged a gap an melded excitement with war and surgery.

Having read it in one session I can't wait to start the next one.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fast paced and exciting 1 Jan 2012
By Ignite TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Kindle Edition
I will start by saying that this isn't my usual type of book. I don't generally read war stories, politics or American history so I wasn't in my comfort zone. However, I was swept along by the story, the medical matters and the characters in this time-slip novel. The hero of the book is befriended by a fellow surgeon he meets in the past and their mutual understanding and co-operation are what gives this book its strength. He knows the outcome of the Civil War of course, but his own actions have unexpected consequences.

It's an interesting book, quite fast paced and exciting. As a horror story reader I didn't find the blood and guts off-putting but rather, I was fascinated by the descriptions. Well worth a read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply beautiful... 13 Nov 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
What a beautiful story this is. Total reading pleasure.

I will confess that I did stop and wonder how I'd forgotten to read the bit in the blurb that mentions the Civil War. I don't like books that talk about war. Just don't find them interesting. And I so could have missed out on this book, which gets me rather annoyed with myself! Because here it's not just about A fighting B, it's the background to a beautiful story of friendship and honour and loyalty. You get to see how the war and its tragedies affect the protagonists, and you can't help but put yourself in David's shoes and wonder how you would cope had you found yourself in the middle of a battlefield at the snap of a finger.

I thought the writing was flowing really nicely and the book was easy to read, even the fighting scenes were related in a way that made them easy to visualise. The end was absolutely wonderful and quite unexpected, and is actually somewhat different to the usual "gone back in time" kind of story.

Thanks Chris for this little beauty, and for reminding us that true friendship is a wonderful thing that will transcend time. This book has my recommendation :)

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting 19 Jan 2014

Very interesting idea, only spoiled in my opinion by the idea that a surgeon could make a good cavalry commander. Strains credibility a bit beyond the willing suspension of disbelief.
