I've read the book three times in a period of 9 years now. Everytime it has been a great pleasure. Being an officer in the Dutch Cavalry I could relate to this gripping story about armoured warfare. Allthough I haven't been in combat, I'm sure that Coyle paints a very good picture of it. Images of simular experiences during training missions where constantly in the back of my head.
I've also read his other books. Offcourse it's more of the same, but if it's great: Who cares!

A super book descibing the much fancied Warsaw Pact - NATO conflict in early 1980s Europe. Inspired by "The Third World War" by Gen Sir John Hackett et al.

Team Yankee follows a group of approx 100 US Army soldiers in tanks and other vehicles as they fight in the bigger plot set by the other book.

Lacking glamour it emphasises that war is not pleasant but incredibly wasteful and tiring, which strikes a note. A good 'lets see what we could have won sketch' especially for the residents of Birmingham. Even better when read after the 'Third World War' book.

In Team Yankee, Harold Coyle lets you follow a combined teams commander in Central Europe during World War III, the book covers amongst others: The changes in personality that war creates in a man, and how different this will come out. He also tells you about the fears the relatives of a fighting soldier feels during the period of not knowing. Harold Coyle has a very thourough knowledge of the inner workings of the armed forces, which makes the book an excellent choice for others trying to figure out what war is all about.
