Product Description

Belbin's renowned Team Role theory is a familiar concept for managers and management trainers across the world.

Following on from the best-selling Management Teams: Why they succeed or fail, this second edition of Team Roles at Work provides useful insights into how to apply the theory in everyday work situations.

This book explores the impact of Team Roles from interpersonal chemistry and managing difficult relationships, to cultivating effective leaders and shaping organizations.

Now fully updated, this second edition has new practical examples and summaries bringing this book up to date 17 years after its original publication. Drawing from Belbin's own practical experience it answers the queries that have arisen during those years. Further information accompanies the book on the Belbin website, www.belbin.com/books/books.htm including a free, downloadable, full-page summary of Team Roles with their icons, descriptions, strengths and allowable weaknesses.

Team Roles at Work is the best-selling, second book written by Meredith Belbin, designed for any manager who wants to understand the practical application of Team Role theory.

R. Meredith Belbin was formerly Chairman of the Industrial Training Research Unit. A founder Member of Belbin Associates, he is also Visiting Professor and Honorary Fellow of Henley Management College.

Team Roles at Work builds on Dr Belbins 1st book Management Teams. This book is far more useful in terms of the practical application of the theory - how will a shaper get on with a team-worker boss? Why do some see their behaviour differently to their colleagues? How can teams manage themselves?
This book also then looks at placement, and the importance of suitability for a role.
If you want to apply the theory, this is the book that will help.

Belbin's theories realy do stand the test of time. "Team Roles at Work" has been updated to make it even more relevant to today's ever changing workplace. As a keen advocate of Belbin's Team Role theory, I cannot recommend this book highly enough. I use the theory regularly in Learning & Development sessions and it helps encourage real understanding and improved working relationships.

Team Roles at Work

This is a worthy title to read for anyone whether in the private, public or charitable sectors, looking for tried and trusted methods to adopt when looking at team roles in a working environment. Belbin clearly and thoughtfully takes the reader through, in a dozen chapters, aspects of his methodologies in relation to, for example, eligibility versus suitability and interpersonal chemistry in the workplace.

Why did I buy it? Well, I'm undertaking a three-year University course in Christian Ministry and one of the second-year modules covers the dynamics of team ministry within a church setting and how this particular theorist can be, and is, applied both practically and theologically to team roles and their outworking in the church's ministry, worship, preaching and pastoral care. I have found him to be easily adaptable to this particular situation and would recommend this book to other churches considering a different perspective, but one readily in tune with a Christian outlook/outreach.
