Good in parts, bad in others!,
By Keith Lard (UK) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The a-Team - the Complete 5th Season [DVD] (DVD)
After watching the first 4 seasons it became obvious they had to make a few changes in order to keep people interested. In series 4 they added more guest appearances to try and keep things fresh, but it lacked the quality of the previous 3 series. So, the idea of the capture of the a team with the added thrill that they were to face a murder trial, not just for robbing the bank made it that little bit more serious, as the death penalty was the sentance. The first 3 episodes, in my opinion were perhaps some of the best ever aired. Infact, the cliffhanger at the end of episode 2 left me at the edge of my seat. But after those first 3 wonderful episodes, the series really became poor, one episode especially called 'the crystal skull'. Which to my mind was the worst a team episode ever made. I would describe it as being a joke! There were some good episodes like 'The Say Uncle Affair' and 'Point Of No Return' and even the episode 'Without Reservations' had its moments. But the rest was poor. Only 13 episodes and no complete ending or pardon for the a team makes it seem like a series cancelled because of how poorly it was put together.
Its probably obvious that the show would have come to end after this series regardless of how good it could have been, it had its time. But to me its such a shame that after the first 3 great episodes it just went downhill, with new real quality or effort. If you are a new fan and really enjoyed the first four seasons and are thinking about getting this one, please dont expect much - Great in parts, horrible in others, dark, depressing and quite boring. Watch the first three episodes, treasure them and then throw the rest of the set away.

Mixed bag, but still worth it.,

For series like this, the UK was not important to the Americans for keeping a series going.
By the end of series 4, The A-Team was heamorraging viewers. Pity, because I was still liking the classic format. The changes made for Season 5 in a vain bid to keep the series going mostly failed. That said, there is still a fair bit of 80s A-Team fun to be had here. Enjoy.

The fifth season of the a team proved to be it's last and was the shortest season to date, only 13 eps instaed of 22,cancelled by the network half way through. This season saw a dramatic change to the format of the show, one maybe the viewers didnt like but i did. At the start of the season the a team are finally captured and put on trial in a 3 part story, they are found guilty but are promised a pardon if they do a number of missions for the government and are governed by Robert vaughn(Hustle, man from uncle)as Hunt stockwell a former c.i.a agent. Another big change apart from the also revamped titles and theme tune is the inclusion of frankie santana a hispanic hollywood fx guy who gets embroiled by circumstance into being a member of the team. I quite like the episodes of this last series, the mission format was a nice change and added a bit of lavour to the show, its a shame we never got to see the whole thing finished and the team pardoned and could retire to a normal life. Well worth watching and they just don't make shows like this anymore and this is the season that someone actually dies!!
