A wonderfully perceptive and radical book, this hasn't dated at all. Highly recommended to anyone who's ever been to school...

Basically nothing has changed since this was first published except that the new government in the UK is either ignorant of the significance of inquiry learning and the role that Art plays in promoting creative thinking in schools, or that it is fully aware that helping young people think for themseves is truly subversive and would mean, if achieved, the end of any chance of a right wing government ever taking control again.
A must for any teacher who cares about empowering young people i.e. enabling them to represent their interests in the life ahead and to understand how these are not exclusive of others', but mutual.
If you need a counter argument to the government's white paper on education read this - it's a classic.

Excellent book for those teachers old and new who see teaching in a somewhat different light to our present government(or any government for that matter)
