5.0 out of 5 stars Really helpful book 2 July 2013
Verified Purchase
Bought this book whilst doing a Science PGCE, and it was really useful.

The main chapters are:
1. Energy
2. Sound, light and waves
3. Forces
4. Electricity and magnetism
5. Earth in space
6. Radioactivity

Each chapter starts by covering misconceptions and areas that pupils struggle to understand, followed by a suggested way to teach it, explanations of equations, diagrams, and some relatively simple practicals to try in class along with what the class should be observing.

I have used the Forces and Sound chapters so far, and found them really helpful.

Might even buy the biology and chemistry ones too!

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant. 18 July 2012

I am starting teacher training this year and decided to buy this book to help me prepare lessons. It is brilliant. It covers the majority of the syllabus, makes note of misconceptions and typical errors, lists the students previous knowledge, gives a wide range of practical activities and useful teaching aids, provides a teaching structure, and is relevantly concise. I have been working with the book for the first half of it, and am now prepared to purchase the Biology and Chemistry books that are also available. I would highly recommend (note I am training as a Physics teacher).
