Gable and Day In Schoolroom Caper! Read All About It!,
By
This review is from: Teachers Pet [DVD] [1958] (DVD)
Agreeable romantic comedy with Clark Gable as gruff City Editor, Jim Gannon. He's an uneducated man and proud of it. But he finds himself falling for journalism professor Erica Stone (Doris Day). Gig Young is very funny in his role as the relentlessly successful Dr Hugo Pine, psychologist and bongo player extraordinaire of whom Gannon is so jealous. Some of the dialogue is a little stilted, and at times the film has the feel of a stage play about it, but it's always entertaining. The scene at the Bongo Club with an embarrassed Jim Gannon getting hot and bothered as his girlfriend performs her raunchy (for the time) night club act, is a real hoot. Gable plays the scene to perfection and his character's discomfort is all too apparent to the much amused Erica. This is a much underrated (by the professional critics) comedy and it's a pity that the DVD offers nothing in the way of extras except subtitles and audio in various languages. The film clocks in at nearly two hours, but it's such a pleasant diversion that it doesn't feel that long.

DORIS DAY & CLARK GABLE,
By
This review is from: Teacher's Pet [DVD] [Region 1] [US Import] [NTSC] (DVD)
TEACHER'S PET,1958,black & white, stars DORIS DAY & CLARK GABLE with GIG YOUNG & MAMIE VAN DORAN.
Jim Gannon[Gable]is a newspapersman from the hard-of-knocks-school-who despises journalism schools... until that is he sees who's doing the teaching, then he is immediately attracted to the stunning blonde professor,Erica Stone[Day]. So Jim then masquerades as a novice in her class. Soon he becomes her prized pupil, all the while trying to make her his own prize. Also as always playing a good comedy part is Gig Young as Dr.Hugo Pine, and a singing Mamie Van Doran as Peggy DeFore. Very worthy of at least four stars. Regards,Bill.

An excellent classic film, very high quality DVD arrived very quickly. Although I already knew the story the description gave enough information without giving the plot away to make me purchase the film even if I wasn't familiar with it. Great!
