Book Description

1 Feb 2011 Sizzling Science Poems
Science is brimful with weird and wonderful language that poetry just loves - stuff like quarks and quasars, atoms and ammonites, organisms and oxygen, protons and photons, plankton and plasma, hydrogen and helium, electrons and electricity - to name but a few. How to Turn Your Teacher Purple! is a collection which brings out the entertaining aspects of science - from the big bang to inventions to weird-looking creatures. Following the success of our previous poetry collections, The Secret Life of Pants and Let's Recycle Grandad, this electrifying collection includes contributions from some of the best children's poets writing today, including Wendy Cope and Tony Mitton.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sizzling Science Poems 20 Feb 2011
Format:Paperback
What would you do with a rainbow? Is the moon really made of cheese? Alongside these flippant, joky poems, are more thoughtful approaches to science: the fact that our planet is 'just right' - the only planet in our solar system that supports life. There's a rap to consider what our skin is wrapped around and an ode to Edison. Biology, physics, chemistry - all the sciences get a look in within the pages of this children's anthology, compiled by James Carter.

Nigel Baines' lively illustrations accompany the work of poets that include Gareth Owen, Wendy Cope, Gerard Benson, Jan Dean, Matthew Sweeney and Wes Magee, as well as a huge number of other popular British and Irish poets writing today. They are, indeed, "sizzling science poems".
