Jack Sheffield was born in 1945 and grew up in the tough environment of Gipton Estate, in North East Leeds. 4.0 out of 5 stars Delightful! 30 Jun 2007
Format:Paperback
This is not my usual type of book as i tend to go for the thriller, blood and gore kind. However, this was bought for me and i think it took me just over 2 days to read - would have taken less but work got in the way! I found it easy to read, enjoyable and quite poingnat at times. Loved every page. Would recommend it to anyone and cannot wait for Mr Sheffield's next book.

4.0 out of 5 stars More, More 20 Aug 2007
By Jo D'Arcy TOP 1000 REVIEWER VINE VOICE
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I picked this book up, because of a recommendation through Amazon, after I had purchased Gervase Phinn's books! There was a sticker on the front of the book when it arrived, even saying if you like Gervase Phinn (GP) you will love this. Rightly I think this was a bit unfair, the book should be judged on it's own merits and I thoroughly enjoyed it though I did have my doubts to begin with. There was some great similarites to GP and even some identical stories - the lad with his trousers round his ankles wanting to know who wipes the bottoms(cleaned up for this review!) around here! This aside, the doubts faded and I found the book delightful and I have always had a bit of a thing for 'school' type stories. The characters were all individuals and not there merely to show the strengths of the author throughout his first year as a head teacher of Ragley School. Unlike GP you could date this book, the year is 1977/78 as dated at the beginning of every chapter and all the outside influences going on in the world are reflected through events and characters. I wonder if in 30 years time we will have similar books, describing what the education system is like currently. I look forward to the next book and just hope there is not too much similarity to GP.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must-read book for stressed teachers! 9 Dec 2007
Format:Paperback
Not only did this book help me through a challenging Ofsted, it also reminded why I decided to be a teacher in the first place. A book that made me both laugh and cry - a fantastic read, much recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Kudos from Indianapolis, Indiana 25 Nov 2007
Format:Paperback
On a recent trip to the UK, I found this book in a small shop near York. Once back home, I enjoyed it so much I read it all in two days (and that was after full days of teaching!)

The honesty and charm of each character was magical. I truly enjoyed the humor within the stories, and as a teacher myself, some of the situations had me putting the book down till I'd finished wiping the tears of laughter away.

I cannot reccomend this book highly enough, and look forward with anticipation to the next book in this series, Mister Teacher.

Sincerely,
Syndy Ortwein

5.0 out of 5 stars Teacher Teacher a great book 21 Oct 2007
Format:Paperback
Teacher Teacher is a fantastic book it had me in hysterics at times much to confusion of the customers in my local coffee shop. At one point I laughed out loud so much that another customer asked me which book I was reading. The characters come out of the book and shake hands with you they are so realistic Jack Sheffield is a brilliant author and I can't wait until Mr teacher comes out in January 08 and I also look forward to Dear Teacher coming out later. Keep up the splendid writing Jack and give us lots more laughs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Teacher, Teacher by Jack Sheffield 29 Jan 2005
Format:Paperback
I just couldn't put this book down - I wanted to know what happened to this new headteacher at the mercy of a rural primary school in North yorkshire in the sixties. I defy anyone to read the 'Dance with your Eyes' chapter without tears in their eyes. Magic! Go out and get it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic - brought back memories 22 Jan 2011
By aliceT
Format:Paperback
I absolutely love this series of books. I am so glad I came across them. I was a child of the 70's and reading these books bring back forgotten memories of both school life and things happening in the world at large. I am also a teacher and love the little anecodotes that still take place today - just goes to show in a world that is continuously changing some things remain the same. I would definately recommend this book.
