Am I allowed to give a review of this book, I do not Know. I was in such a hurry to buy it when I first started Photoshop a few months ago I could not wait and bought it locally. To a beginner, as I was then on this subject it is utterly confusing as each project seems to start in the middle of a flow giving no indication as to how the author got there. Take chapter 8 What are Layers? as an example, using playing cards it goes on for many pages, at that time as a beginner I had not got a clue as to how this document was constructed, how did he get there? on the first page P178. At the start of the book it says THIS BOOK IS FOR THE READER WHO HAS NEVER USED THIS PARTICULAR TECHNOLOGY OR SOFTWARE APPLICATION.
If you want real help starting off on this very complicated subject try the two ladies Kelly Mcathran and Lynette Kent aothors of two other book courses on the Amazon web site, after studying with these two ladies for a few months I now Know how he got to the first project on P178. and have gone well beyond the contents of this book.
John Bentley. Liverpool.

Way to many pictures, and very poor descriptions. Would not recommend it for someone who is a NEW Photoshop user !

A true beginner's manual 11 Nov 2010
By B. Scott - Published on Amazon.com

I had looked at several books on learning CS5 and most of them seemed to be suited for people who had used previous versions of Photoshop and now wanted to learn CS5. Well, I wasn't in that boat. I had never used Photoshop at all, so I needed to learn from the ground up. If you are in the same spot I was, this is the book for you. It assumes you know nothing about the program and even goes so far as to show you how to launch it from the Programs menu, which I got a good chuckle out of, thinking "Hey! Even my dad could follow this!"

The style is very straight-forward and outside of a one or two sentence synopsis at the start of every task, it's all about doing, not reading. The steps for any given task are clear and the illustrations are helpful. This book is not going to make you a Photoshop professional but it quickly shows you how to use all of the tools. I highly recommend it for the beginner.

A Fun and Easy Guide 16 July 2010
By Rosie - Published on Amazon.com

I have to jump from Photoshop 5 to CS5, a monumental change! This is simply the BEST guide I have ever read.
I am computer-challenged to begin with and only used Photoshop in a minimal way, mainly due to lack of understandable instructions. These instructions make it so easy. They are easy on the eyes and visually appealing. The text is well organized. Enjoy!

Visually helpful! 4 Feb 2011

If you are a visual learner, or need a well presented book about Photoshop CS5, then look no further. This book was recommended (but not required) for a digital photography class and it has been a helpful guide to keep track of all the things you can do in Photoshop (which can be overwhelming at times!) If you can't decide which Photoshop book to go with, I suggest this one so that you can actually see what you need to do within each step!
