More About the Author

Hello

I am Nicky Hayes - a psychologist who has had a varied career teaching, learning, researching and communicating psychology. I am now semi-retired and living in the far North of Scotland, but previously I lived in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, and before that the City of Leeds. I have written a variety of books about psychology, and edited or contributed to one or two more. My interests have spanned quite a range over the decades, and have changed as I have grown older; but include animal behaviour, the psychology of interactive design, small business management, social identification and social representations, and the application of psychology to effective everyday practice. On the recreational front, I particularly enjoy reading science fiction, some biographies, and of course the great Terry Pratchett. I don't have a facebook account, so if you find one on there pretending to be me it isn't. (although I think the imposter is gone, now).

Hope you enjoy the books.

love, Nicky

Most Helpful Customer Reviews

5 of 5 people found the following review helpful By Nicola on 11 Mar. 2009
Format: Paperback
This book is useful to anyone who has an interest in, but no previous knowledge of, psychology. It provides a brief outline of the various types of psychology, with the emphasis on behavioural psychology. As it is an introductory tool, it lacks any detail on the theories underpinning and informing methods and beliefs. The author is skilled at leaving the reader to form their own opinion. It may also be a useful self help tool to anyone wishing to move forward from past experiences, with chapters on social learning, childhood influences, dealing with emotions, loss and so forth. This is an ideal book for the new student, but perhaps not for those who are already familiar with, or work in, areas of psychology.
