Polish is a really complex language, and I got this book to be able to converse properly with my relatives. Although many other books are about memorising words which are wholly unimportant, this is actually no better for it's conversational take. The idea would work well if there was sufficient audio material on the cd to help.
Pronunciation of Polish words is a major obstacle to tackle, and the half-page guide at the front is really no help. When it comes to a rare section that is on the cd, you play the woefully short track only to discover a word you thought would be pronounced one way is pronounced entirely differently. Esentially since I need to speak Polish and not write it just yet, this guide only confused and confounded me more and just got shelved.

This book is clearly written, and easy to understand. Instead of overwhelming you with huge amounts of grammar to MEMORIZE, it takes a more conversational approach, and explains cases and conjugations as they come up. The chapters are short enough and varying. If you haven't already noticed, there are few decent books on Polish. This is a beginner course, but I am pleased with it so far.

...[I]t doesn't overwhelm you with huge amounts of grammar to MEMORIZE, but in my opinion it goes far too much in the opposite direction,and swamps the reader with too much text and not enough grammar. If you're learning a relatively complex language like Polish, you just have to accept the fact that you need to get top grips with a lot of grammar, which will require a lot of work.
