As a self-confessed self help book junkie I really enjoyed reading this book. Although every subject is geared towards tips on how to live a longer life, all it does is clearly set out chapter by chapter all the sensible things, according to the latest scientific research, that we can do to live a healthy, efficient optimum, human life. So if you're not interested in trying to become a centenarian don't be put off by the title! There are chapters on food, from which I picked up useful tips on foods to go for and what to avoid, and supplements, which included the latest scientific evidence for and against. The chapter on exercise was very enlightening especially in terms of getting older and how our needs for exercise change. There was a chapter on brain training which explains how the old adage "use it or lose it" may be true. Also the latest thinking on relaxation and happiness is included - giving me a useful summary and update on meditation and cognitive behavioural therapy which seem to be all the rage nowadays. Then prudence, love, sex, and spirituality are all discussed in terms of their effect on our health, wellbeing, and ultimately our longevity. All in all I found this an informative read, that gave a quick sensible summary of each subject without getting bogged down in any one. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and learned from it it too.
