This course is excellent and could be recommended for those with quite considerable existing knowledge of German. It might not be quite suitable for those who have only previously persued an elementary course.
Amongst the intended audience are those whose German is out of practice: those who perhaps learnt the language at school, to an examination level, but have allowed their skills to lapse.
The course covers facets of travel, hobbies, current affairs, work and education: all things of practical use to, for example, business travellers to Germany. This more practical approach sets the course apart from some others which are of a more academic inclination. These latter afford excellent knowledge that can, unfortunately, leave you speechless in many situations!
All in all the course builds confidence in conversing in the language in everyday situations.

I was recommended to buy this book for the German Class I attend as a member of the Kingston U3A. we are finding that this particular book is out of date with modern German and we will not be using it to any great length.

I got to know this sieres of books because of a friend of mine who bought the book for teach yourself russian. Being a native speaker of russian, I was surprised by how quickly my friend learned to speak, my only complaint being that the recording taught the students to speak too slowly for a native ear. I have studied German for 2 years at the university, and bought this book at the beginning of the summer to get ready for another year of advanced german, and I found the book and the recording very good. I found myself thinking more in German and being able to say things in a more sophisticated way than before. Unlike what I found in russian, the improve your german recordings spoke at converstion speed, and I soon became even more confident with listening and taking complete dictation on what was being said. Ein sehr gutes Buch!

Good supplement to German class

I'm not sure how well you can learn to speak German from JUST this set, but it's great for listening in the car and reviewing language points for 1/2 hour a day or so. I used this in conjunction with taking classes, and I think it's a pretty decent learning tool.
